The New York Mets are coming off a hard loss against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In what could have been a series sweep, the club settled for a split as the Dodgers again proved to be a threat. Despite having the upper hand in the four-game series, Steve Cohen’s team was lagging in certain areas.
Errors seem to have cost the team a lot, and that’s something the Dodgers thrive on. In their last game, Brett Baty made a bad mistake at the plate, allowing Will Smith to score the tying run. The Dodgers eventually won the game with a 6-5 final score.
MLB insider Jon Heyman revealed the one reason why the Mets are not as good as the Dodgers. Here’s what he had to say.
“The Mets left Los Angeles with a very unsatisfying series sweep against the powerful Dodgers this week. Very unfortunate, they lost 6-5 at the end of the game; they could have easily swept this series. The biggest issue with this team is hitting with runners in scoring position. Hitting in clutch situations. One difference between these two teams, right now, is that the Mets feel like the more talented team. One difference is that the Dodgers hit in the clutch,” Heyman said.

While Heyman continued to outline the team’s struggles, he also mentioned that they are a great team with top sluggers like Pete Alonso and David Peterson.

Brett Baty’s blunder was costly as the Dodgers took advantage of the situation. Baty failed to make the play when Andy Pages hit a grounder. Will Smith was caught trying to get home in a rundown, but Baty could not get the ball off his glove on the first attempt.
His throw to Francisco Alvarez was not on target as Smith scored for the Dodgers to tie the game. Manager Carlos Mendoza stated that the team failed to make the play, resulting in the loss.
Despite splitting the series, the Mets are still on top of their division and have a better record than the Dodgers. Apart from the mistakes, players are having a great time in the dugout.
