Aaron Judge had an excellent season last year with the New York Yankees. The slugger led the league in home runs and helped the team reach the World Series. Judge had a great run as he won his second AL MVP.
The Yankees need their captain more than anything in 2025. Yet, Giancarlo Stanton’s injury could be a huge problem for Judge. The Yanks have had their first full-squad workout, but Stanton had to sit out. The slugger has been dealing with a “tennis elbow” and is suffering from terrible pain. It’s been close to a month since he’s swung a bat, and he might miss a quarter of the season.
With Juan Soto gone and Stanton injured, Aaron Judge could be in trouble. MLB insider Buster Olney thinks the burden would weigh more on the Yankees captain.
“He’s had so many injuries and this has become part of the deal. Given the nature of this injury, I think it’s a big concern. We don’t know how much time he’s gonna be on the field with us. You’re still gonna need another bat in the lineup to help protect Aaron Judge, who’s gonna look pretty naked this year without Juan Soto batting in front of him,” Olney said via the Michael Kay show.
Yankees Could Shift Aaron Judge’s Position In Light Of Stanton’s Absence
The Yankees will be forced to make a few changes to the team in the light of Stanton’s absence. It is uncertain when Stanton will return. As per the latest update, “Big G” might miss out on the first 100 games of the season.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone is considering a few lineup changes. Now that the Yanks have Cody Bellinger, they will be able to experiment with their batting order. Since Bellinger is a left-handed slugger, he will bring some versatility to the plate.

“He’s huge for us, especially since we’re a little more left-handed right now. You take a big right-handed bat out of there and you get a little unbalanced there,” Boone said about Stanton via MLB.com. Missing out on Stanton will be hard for the Yanks, but they will have no choice right now. In a recent video, Aaron Judge recently touched upon Soto’s departure and his reasons for joining the Mets.
