The Los Angeles Dodgers have undeniably one of the best pitching rotations in the league. The franchise re-signed veteran pitchers, traded a few, and brought in an international pitcher. Moreover, Shohei Ohtani is preparing to get on the mound.
The Boys in Blue have plenty of pitching depth. Early predictions easily see them as the future World Series champions. Yet, there could be a problem with a stacked rotation. According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, plenty of talented pitchers are in their 40-man roster. However, not everyone will get a chance to play.
Rosenthal thinks the Dodgers will eventually question the number of pitchers on the roster. He says that they cannot keep pitchers like Dustin May and Tony Golsolin on the shelf for a long time.
“What are they gonna do with all these guys? How are they gonna pitch? That might prop them to do something at some point. You can’t stash Dustin May and Tony Golsolin. They have a numbers problem. At some point, they will have to entertain things,” Rosenthal said.
Rosenthal further says the Dodgers will be reluctant to trade off their depth, but they need to find a way to give other pitchers a chance.
“They also have an issue with the Japanese pitchers, Sasaki, Yamamoto, and Ohtani again once he starts pitching. Their pitchers have gotten hurt over the years. It’s been a repeated problem. They are going to be reluctant to trade off their depth but at some point, it might be a situation where they are looking at it and saying what are we doing here. We gotta get something for some of these guys,” Rosenthal continued.
"They've got a numbers problem."

Los Angeles Dodgers Have 11 Pitchers On Their Depth Chart

Unlike the other teams, the Dodgers have plenty of pitchers on their depth chart. The franchise has 11 starting pitchers, while teams like the New York Yankees have only six. However, out of 11, five are placed on the injured list.
Clayton Kershaw, Tony Gonsolin, Emmet Sheehan, Gavin Stone, and River Ryan will not be available on Opening Day. Rosenthal’s words make sense to some point. The Dodgers are not going to give everyone a chance. They have six pitchers on their rotation who will play a primary role.
While they are favored to win the World Series in 2025, some experts think they will not make it past the NLCS.
