As the 2025 MLB season continues its swing around the park for April, we’re seeing some young teams step up with the aspiration of hoisting the Commissioner’s Trophy by the end of October. Other teams need to turn things around, but there’s still plenty of time before the MLB postseason begins in the fall.
Here are your MLB Power Rankings after week three.
Who are the top-ranking MLB teams after week 3 of action?
30. Colorado Rockies (Last week 29)

Another difficult week for the Rockies is in the books, and the struggles persist. Two series losses to the Brewers and Padres indicate that the Rockies’ season is likely over, even though there’s a lot more baseball to be played.
Brenton Doyle did help the Rockies secure one win against the Brewers with a home run and five RBIs, but his talents aren’t enough to save the team’s season, as the rest of the Rockies have been highly ineffective.
29. Chicago White Sox (Last week 28)

The White Sox may have been swept by the Guardians, but they earned a nice 2-1 series win over the Red Sox. Chase Meidroth was called up to the roster amid the struggles, while Michael Taylor had three hits and scored three times in game one of their series against the Red Sox, and Martin Perez currently has a 1.59 ERA and helped the team earn a 3-2 win over the Red Sox in game two.

Despite that, the struggles continue in the South Side of Chicago, and the White Sox must find a way to win more games.
28. Atlanta Braves (Last week 30)

The Braves secured their first series win of the 2025 season by defeating the Phillies in two games. Unfortunately, they still find themselves at the bottom of the rankings after a 1-2 series loss to the Rays. Michael Harris II hit a two-run homer against the Rays in game two of that series, and Chris Sale contributed to the team’s solid 7-5 victory over the Phillies while voicing his frustrations about his MLB team’s struggles.
Additionally, Sean Murphy is starting to emerge as a power hitter with a 0.263 batting average and three home runs. The Braves have the potential to establish themselves as a strong team if they can turn things around.
27. Pittsburgh Pirates (Last week 26)

The Pirates started the week with a 2-1 series win over the Cardinals but were swept by the Reds. The Pirates managed to have five runs and 10 against the Reds and are batting 0.184 as a team. Isiah Kiner-Falefa currently has a 0.260 batting average but had no hits in four of the last five games, and pitchers have been allowing hits like crazy. The Pirates need to find that winning recipe, and fast, in the NL Central.
26. Minnesota Twins (Last week 23)

The Twins had a rough week with two divisional series losses against the Royals and Tigers, respectively. Despite snagging a 4-0 win against the Royals in game three of that series, the Twins’ bats cooled off in winnable games.
Edouard Julien hit a home run against the Tigers in game three, helping the Twins snag a win, and Simeon Woods Richardson pitched fairly well despite having a 4.30 ERA. Slow pitching and cold bats are hurting the Twins. They need to find that spark of hope early in this MLB season and fast.
25. Washington Nationals (Last week 24)

The Nationals may have secured a solid series win over the Dodgers, but they lost their next series 1-2 against the Marlins. Mackenzie Gore allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings during game three against the Marlins.
Nathan Lowe hit a base-clearing double in game one against the Marlins, and James Wood hit two home runs in game two of the series against the Dodgers. Despite the tough series loss to the Marlins, the Nationals have some young hitters stepping up, although their pitching needs to improve.
24. Baltimore Orioles (Last week 22)

The Orioles had a challenging week, losing a 1-2 series against the Diamondbacks and tying a shortened series against the Blue Jays. Tyler O’Neill and Mountcastle each hit two homers in game two of the Blue Jays series, while Cedric Mullins helped secure the win for the O’s in game one.
However, they were shut out 9-0 against the Diamondbacks in game three, managing only four singles. The Orioles have strong hitters, but manager Brandon Hyde mentioned he’s being too lenient with this MLB team, and several key members of their pitching staff are injured.
23. Athletics (Last week 17)

The Athletics had a rough week, losing two series to the Padres and Mets, respectively. Tyler Solderstrom hit two home runs in game one against the Padres, and J.T. Ginn allowed one run in five strong innings in game two against the Mets, but the Athletics were held without a home run in game three of their series against the Padres.
The Athletics played games in which they could’ve won, but they needed to step up their pitching. Joey Estes was sent back down to Triple-A after a tough start to the MLB season.
22. St. Louis Cardinals (Last week 13)

Despite losing their divisional series to the Pirates, the Cardinals bounced back and earned a nice 2-1 series win over the Phillies. Matthew Liberatore pitched six shutout innings against the Phillies in game three, Victor Scott II had two hits, including a two-run triple, helping the team edge the Pirates in game two, and Andre Pallante pitched seven shutout innings against the Phillies in game one. The Cardinals are starting to click nicely and can potentially finish the month on a strong note.
21. Houston Astros (Last week 18)

The Astros are slowly chugging along in the AL West, with a 2-1 series win over the Angels but a 1-2 series loss against the Mariners. Cam Smith hit an RBI triple, giving the Astros life in game two, Yainer Díaz hit his first career grand slam in their 14-3 game one victory over the Angels, and Hayden Wesneski struck out a career-high 10 batters in their game three victory. The Astros may be in fourth place in the AL West, but their hitters and pitching have their dangerous groove back… for now.
20. Tampa Bay Rays (Last week 19)

A decent week for the Rays, winning a 2-1 series over the Braves, but they lost a tough 1-2 series against the Angels. Zack Littell struggled and gave up five straight hits and three home runs against the Angels in game three, Junior Caminero hit a three-run homer against the Braves in game three, and Danny Jansen hit his first home run of the MLB season in game one against the Braves. The Rays are starting to show consistency but have some pitching issues that need to be ironed out as the season continues.
19. Boston Red Sox (last week 11)

The Red Sox had a rough week, losing two series against the Blue Jays and White Sox. Sean Newcomb had a rough game against the White Sox, giving up six runs. The offense struggled against the Blue Jay’s pitching, but luckily, Garrett Crockett struck out 11 batters in seven-and-a-half innings against the White Sox in Game three. The offensive struggles are painful, but the Red Sox need to rebound after losing two straight series.
18. Seattle Mariners (Last week 25)

The Mariners had a very good week, winning a 2-1 series over the Astros and sweeping the Rangers. Logan Gilbert allowed one home run in five innings in game three against the Rangers, Cal Raleigh hit a go-ahead two-run homer in game one against the Rangers, and Randy Arozarena hit a grand slam in game three against the Astros.
Although the Mariners had a hot week, they have a 0.500 record and have some work to do if they want to move past the Rangers and Angels for first place in the AL West.
17. Kansas City Royals (Last week 20)

The Royals started the week with a 3-1 series win over the Twins but stumbled in their 1-2 series loss against the Guardians. Kyle Isbel had three hits at four at-bats, including a home run in game one against the Twins, Kris Bubic had a rough game against the Guardians in game two, and Cole Ragans struck out 10 batters in 7 ⅔ innings in game three against the Guardians. The Royals are showing some consistency against good pitching but have underperformed in key games.
16. Cincinnati Reds (Last week 27)

The Reds had a very good week, winning a 2-1 series against the Giants and sweeping the Pirates. Elly De La Cruz continues to shine with 17 RBIs and a 0.238 batting average, Hunter Greene pitched seven solid innings against the Pirates in game three, and Nick Lodolo pitched six great innings against the Giants in game two. The Reds’ pitching is starting to be dangerously effective against opposing batters in the MLB. Watch out, Brewers and Cubs; the Reds are not far behind.
15. Milwaukee Brewers (Last week 14)

The Brewers started the week hot against the Rockies but couldn’t close the week out against the Diamondbacks. José Quintana threw seven scoreless innings in his Brewers debut. Jackson Chourio had two hits, three runs, and a home run against the Rockies in game two and had two hits and a home run against the D-Backs in game two. The Brewers may be in second place for now, but the Reds may overtake them if this MLB team continues to fall flat in key games.
14. Arizona Diamondbacks (Last week 15)

The D-Backs won two straight 2-1 series against both the Orioles and the Brewers, respectively, and have a winning record despite being in fourth place in the NL West. Corbin Carroll had two hits and a home run in game three against the O’s, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded, giving the team a massive 5-4 victory in game two against the Brewers, and the offense is starting to turn around.
Competition in the NL West will be interesting, especially if the D-Backs go on their hot streak and catch up with the Giants, Dodgers, and Padres.
13. Miami Marlins (Last week 12)

The Marlins had a rough 1-2 series loss against the Mets but started to cook with oil in their 2-1 series win over the Nationals. Matt Mervis hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to boost the team’s lead over the Nationals in game three, Kyle Stowers and Griffin Conine each had two hits and two runs against the Nationals in game two, and Max Meyer had a no-hitter through six innings against the Mets in game three.
Despite the tough two losses against the Mets, the Marlins bounced back quite nicely, thanks to great offensive play in their games early this MLB season.
12. New York Yankees (Last week 4)

The Yankees had a very tough week, losing two series against the Tigers and Giants, respectively. Aaron Judge continues to play well, and Max Fried pitched seven scoreless innings against the Tigers to avoid a sweep, but the Yankees gave up a 3-0 lead against the Giants in game three. The Yankees’ early struggles hurt, but they need key guys to return to the lineup for the long haul of the season, even though they’re currently in second place in the AL East.
11. Cleveland Guardians (Last week 21)

The Guardians had a very exciting week, sweeping the White Sox and defeating the Royals in a 2-1 series. Gabriel Arias hit a three-run homer against the Royals in game one, Steven Kwan had four RBIs, three singles, and a home run against the White Sox in game three, and Luis Ortiz struck out 10 batters in his home debut in game two against the Royals.
The Guardians’ bats are sizzling so far, which leads to more wins and staying not far behind the Tigers for first place in the AL Central.
10. Philadelphia Phillies (Last week 6)

The Phillies may have a winning record, but they had a bit of a rough week, losing two series against the Braves and Cardinals, respectively. Trea Turner hit a game-tying home run in game two against the Braves, and Nick Castellanos started game two against the Cardinals strong with a double, allowing Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper to score, but Zach Wheeler struggled against the Cardinals in game three, allowing four runs and seven hits. The Phillies had some opportunities to win their series against the Braves, but it all slipped away.
9. Texas Rangers (Last week 3)

Despite being in second place, the Rangers had a rough week losing a 1-2 series against the Cubs and were swept by the Mariners. The Rangers almost won their second game against the Cubs, but the Cubs came back in the bottom of the eighth.
Corey Seager had two home runs against the Cubs to avoid the sweep in game three, and Kumar Rocker had a rough game two against the Mariners. The Rangers’ offense had too many wasted opportunities in their series against the Mariners and Cubs and needs to return to form in the coming weeks in the MLB season.
8. Los Angeles Angels (Last week 9)

The Angels have been playing some good baseball recently but took a stumble in their 1-2 series loss against the Astros. Jo Adell became the third player in Angels’ history to homer twice in the same inning. In contrast, Mike Trout and Taylor Ward homered twice against the Rays in game three, Tyler Anderson took a no-hitter into the sixth inning in game two against the Astros, and Tyler Ward played a good game against the Rays in game two despite the loss.
The Angels ran into some intense hitters on the Astros but should bounce back in their next series on the road and at home.
7. Toronto Blue Jays (Last week 16)

A great week North of the Border, with the Blue Jays winning a 3-1 series against the Red Sox and tying a shortened series against the Orioles on the road. Easton Lucas pitched a great scoreless 5 ⅓ innings against the Red Sox in game two, Myles Straw hit the go-ahead home run in the 10th inning in comeback fashion against the Orioles in extra innings, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. celebrated his contract extension on the road with three hits in game three against the Red Sox. As the Blue Jays snag first place in the AL East, their hitting will continue to heat up.
6. Detroit Tigers (Last week 10)

It was a great week in the Motor City, with the Tigers winning both their series against the Yankees and Twins, respectively. Tarik Skuball had four hits in six innings against the Yankees and didn’t allow a run in game two.
Dillion Dingler was very effective against the Twins in game two with three hits, an RBI, and a run, and Jackson Jobe pitched six shutout innings in game one, earning his first major league win. The Tigers’ pitching was great in week three, and they need to stay hot for the competition ahead of them.
5. New York Mets (Last week 8)

The Mets are very hot and earned two series wins over the Marlins and Athletics, respectively. Juan Soto may only have one home run for now, but he has found ways to keep the Mets in first place in the NL East with 12 walks so far.
Kodai Senga became the first Mets pitcher to throw for seven innings this MLB season in game three against A’s, and Pete Alonzo drove in four runs against the Marlins in game two. Despite Soto’s slow start, he will get hot and deliver for the Mets faithful. Meanwhile, the rest of the Mets’ pitching is off to a hot start so far.
4. Chicago Cubs (Last week 7)

The Cubs had a very impressive week, with two series wins over the Rangers and the defending champion Dodgers. Pete Crow-Armstrong homered twice in game three against the Dodgers, Justin Steele gave up three hits in seven innings against the Rangers in game one but will miss the rest of the season with elbow surgery, and Ben Brown pitched six scoreless innings against the Dodgers in game two. Losing Steele for the season is a massive blow, but the Cubs need to continue pitching strong against opposing offenses as the season continues.
3. Los Angeles Dodgers (Last week 2)

Despite having a winning record of 11-6, the Dodgers had a rough week against the Nationals and Cubs. Shohei Ohtani went two for four singles in the fourth and seventh innings in game three against the Nats. Tommy Edman hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning against the Cubs in game one, but Tyler Glasnow gave up three hits in six innings in game three as the Dodgers missed an opportunity to win. Competition in the NL West is heating up between the Dodgers, Giants, and Padres, but only one will win the division.
2. San Francisco Giants (Last week 1)

The Giants have been playing solid baseball despite losing their series against the Reds but defeated the Yankees in two games. Jung Hoo Lee had a great week in baseball and has a batting average of 0.352 so far. Robbie Ray pitched a great game against the Yankees in the rain, and Wilmer Flores led the team with six home runs so far. Everything seems to be going just right for the Giants, even though they’re in second place in the competitive NL West.
1. San Diego Padres (Last week 5)

The Padres are currently the best team in MLB, with a 13-3 record, defeating the Athletics in a 2-1 series and sweeping the Rockies. The Padres’ pitching shut the Rockies out in the series sweep. Fernando Tatis Jr. had two home runs against the Rockies in two games, and Xander Bogaerts had three hits and scored both of the Padres’ runs against the A’s in game three. If the Padres keep their offense and pitching hot, they can emerge as the NL West champions by the end of the season.
