Week eight was another exciting week of baseball as the best of the best continue to dominate throughout May.
Some MLB teams look ready for the postseason in October, other teams look like they need to tweak a few things in the coming weeks or months, and some teams are thankful they are not the Rockies. However, each week, something new happens in the MLB rankings, and we at TPS enjoy every second of it.
Here are your MLB Power Rankings for all 30 teams after week 8.
Who are the top-ranking MLB teams after week 8 of action?
30. Colorado Rockies (Last week 30)

Nothing seems to be going right for the Rockies in 2025. They were swept by the Rangers and lost a 1-2 series against the Diamondbacks. Sure, the Rockies won 14-12 against the D-Backs in game two of that series, but the team has a long way to go, and they’re predicted to lose more games than the 2024 White Sox.
29. Chicago White Sox (Last week 29)

The White Sox are not great, but they show a slight improvement compared to the 2024 team. They won a 2-1 series against the Reds, but were swept by the Cubs in four games. Davis Martin allowed seven hits and had five strikeouts in six innings in game two against the Reds, and Miguel Vargas had a three-run homer in game one against the Reds. The White Sox have a lot of ground to make up in the AL Central, but they’re main focus is on rebuilding so far.

28. Pittsburgh Pirates (Last week 28)

The Pirates had a rough week 8 in the MLB, losing a 1-2 series against the Mets and being swept by the Phillies. Matt Gorski and Jared Triolo both hit homers off Clay Holmes in game three against the Mets, and Paul Skenes allowed eight hits, one earned run, and nine strikeouts in eight innings played against the Phillies in game three. The Pirates’ offense has struggled to garner many hits and has scored four or fewer runs in recent days. The bullpen has also been a mess outside of Skenes, and the team must get back on track.
27. Baltimore Orioles (Last week 24)

The Orioles had a truly awful week eight, getting swept by both the Twins and the Nationals. Kyle Gibson was designated for assignment after a disastrous season so far, with a 16.78 ERA. The offense struggled and failed to score any runs, and manager Brandon Hyde was shown the exit. With the Orioles on the downslope, can third-base coach turned interim manager Tony Mansalino turn the Orioles’ sinking ship around? We’ll just have to wait and find out?
26. Miami Marlins (Last week 27)

The Marlins had a rough start to the week, losing a 1-2 series to the Cubs, but winning a 2-1 series against the Rays. Eric Wagaman had three hits and two RBIs in game one against the Rays, but Sandy Alcantara allowed five hits, four earned runs, and three strikeouts in five innings against the Rays in game two, and Derek Hill hit a two-run home run in game one against the Cubs. The Marlins have been struggling with hitting and pitching in week eight of the MLB season, and have been outscored by 13 runs.
25. Los Angeles Angels (Last week 25)

The Angels had a challenging week eight, losing a 1-2 series against the Padres, but managed to sweep the Dodgers, earning their first sweep since 2010. Travis d’Arnaud hit a tiebreaking home run in game three against the Dodgers, and Jack Kochanowicz allowed five hits, one earned run, and five strikeouts in six innings in game one against the Dodgers. The Angels may have gotten the sweep against the Dodgers, but the team had a challenging week eight with Luis Rengifo being benched for poor performance. The Angels must get their offense back on track.
24. Washington Nationals (Last week 26)

The Nationals had a rough start to their week, losing a 1-3 series against the Braves, but swept the Orioles in three games. CJ Abrams hit two home runs against the Orioles in game three, and Luis Garcia Jr. had three RBIs in game two against the Orioles. Despite the Nationals’ recent struggles against the Braves, Abrams emerged as a bright spot for the team in their series against the Orioles and must continue improving around him in the coming weeks.
23. Tampa Bay Rays (Last week 23)

The Rays started the week well with a 2-1 series win over the Orioles, but lost a tough 1-2 series against the Marlins on the road. Josh Lowe hit a home run in his first game back since being injured from opening day in game three against the Blue Jays, Ryan Pepiot allowed six hits, three earned runs, and seven strikeouts in six innings played against the Blue Jays in game two, and Shane Baz allowed nine hits, five earned runs, and two strikeouts in six innings played against the Marlins against the Marlins in game three. The Rays can be a mixed bag at times this MLB season, but they have to keep it moving for the new week.
22. Athletics (Last week 16)

The A’s had a rough week, losing a 1-2 series against the Dodgers and being swept by the Giants. Despite winning an 11-1 battle against the Dodgers in game one of that series, the A’s lost five straight, including a 2-19 loss against the Dodgers in game three. Osvaldo Bido allowed five hits, six earned runs, and two strikeouts in one inning played in game three against the Dodgers, and the A’s offense was barely able to score any runs throughout the week. The A’s must bounce back from their painful week immediately.
21. Milwaukee Brewers (Last week 20)

The Brewers had a rough week 8 in this MLB season, losing their series against the Guardians and Twins, respectively. Jackson Chourio robbed Royce Lewis of having a potential tying home run in game three against the Twins, but in all of their losses during the week, the Brewers failed to get anyone to score runs. The Brewers’ offense must get back on track if they want to stay relevant in a very competitive NL Central.
20. Boston Red Sox (Last week 13)

The Red Sox took a stumble and were swept by the Tigers, and lost a 1-2 series against the Braves. Although the Red Sox can score runs in crucial moments, manager Alex Cora has said the team is making base-running mistakes in close games. The Red Sox lost a tough 9-10 battle against the Tigers in game two, and lost a tough 2-4 matchup against Chris Sale and the Braves in game one. The Red Sox have also had troubles with starting pitching and their bullpen in late-inning situations.
19. Toronto Blue Jays (Last week 18)

The Blue Jays had a rough week themselves, losing both their series against the Rays and Tigers, respectively. Alejandro Kirk hit a three-run homer in game two against the Rays, and Ernie Clement hit the game-winning single in game two against the Tigers. However, the Blue Jays lost two very close games in their series against the Tigers and must improve offensively, as May slowly comes to a close in less than two weeks.
18. Cincinnati Reds (Last week 22)

The Reds lost a tough series against the White Sox, but the White Sox swept the Reds with ease. Elly De La Cruz, Will Benson, and Matt McLain each homered against the White Sox in game three. Benson had a two-homer game against the Guardians in game three, and Brady Singer allowed three hits, three earned runs, and four strikeouts in game one against the Guardians. The Reds picked up a much-needed four-game winning streak at this time in the MLB season and must keep that streak alive to climb back in the NL Central.
17. Atlanta Braves (Last week 21)

The Braves had a great week, winning their series against the Nationals and Red Sox, respectively. Chris Sale struck out eight and pitched seven innings against the Red Sox in game one, Marcell Ozuna homered in games two and three against the Red Sox, and Drake Baldwin hit a two-run homer in game two against the Nationals. The Braves are finally above 0.500 and must build upon this successful week in the coming months for a chance at competing with the Phillies and Mets in the NL East.
16. Houston Astros (Last week 14)

The Astros had a good week, winning a 2-1 series against the Royals and tying their series against the Rangers. Isaac Paredes hit a tie-breaking solo home run in game two against the Royals, Christian Walker hit a three-run homer in game two against the Rangers, and Jeremy Peña hit a tie-breaking RBI single in game three against the Royals. The Astros have good hitters and must stay hot. However, Jose Altuve struggled in game three against the Rangers. Altuve should rebound in the coming weeks.
15. Texas Rangers (Last week 19)

The Rangers had themselves a nice week, sweeping the Rockies and tying their series against the Astros. Patrick Corbin had nine strikeouts in six innings played in game three against the Rockies, Jacob deGrom played eight solid innings and earned his fourth win in game one against the Astros, and Joc Pederson hit a two-run homer in game three against the Astros. The Rangers’ offense may be inconsistent at times, but their pitching had a solid week and should strike fear in upcoming opposing batters.
14. Arizona Diamondbacks (Last week 17)

The D-Backs had a good week, winning both their series against the Giants and the Rockies, respectively. Corbin Burnes had a season-high 10 strikeouts in six meaningful innings in game one against the Rockies, Corbin Carroll hit two home runs off Justin Verlander in game one against the Giants, and Merrill Kelly struck out a season-high 11 batters in game three against the Rockies. The D-Backs’ pitching has been great, and their offense has been improving in their recent performances in the MLB. They must keep it up in a very competitive NL West.
13. Kansas City Royals (Last week 9)

The Royals had a tough week, losing both their series against the Astros and the Cardinals, respectively. Bobby Witt Jr. and Jonathan India both drove in runs to defeat the Astros in game one, but the offense struggled to score runs in key matchups. On top of that, their bullpen has struggled, even though they’ve had some strong pitching performances, from Noah Cameron, who struck out three in six innings played in game two against the Cardinals. The Royals’ offense must find a way to turn things around.
12. Cleveland Guardians (Last week 8)

The Guardians started the week on a good note, winning a 2-1 series against the Brewers, but were swept by the Reds. José Ramírez hit his seventh home run of the season in game two against the Brewers, and Gabriel Arias had a three-run double in game one against the Brewers. However, the Guardians were 2-16 with runners at scoring positions in game three against the Reds, and they must turn things around quickly.
11. St. Louis Cardinals (Last week 12)

The Cardinals had a very good week 8 in the MLB, winning both their series against the Phillies and the Royals, respectively. Masyn Winn hit a homer to help the Cardinals secure the win against the Phillies in game one, Iván Herrera had three hits and four RBIs in game one against the Royals, and Miles Mikolas pitched six sharp innings against the Royals in game two. The Cardinals showcased strong pitching and defense throughout the week.
10. Minnesota Twins (Last week 15)

The Twins had a solid week, sweeping the Orioles and winning a 2-1 series against the Brewers. Joe Ryan struck out nine batters in six innings in game one against the Brewers, Christian Vasquez hit a three-run homer in game two against the Orioles, and Pablo Lopez struck out six in six innings in game two against the Brewers. The Twins showcased a strong offense and strong pitching throughout the week, but lost game three against the Brewers, ending their 13-game winning streak.
9. Seattle Mariners (Last week 11)

The Mariners had a rough start to their week, losing a tough 1-2 home-stand against the Yankees, but swept the Padres to make up for it. J.P. Crawford hit an RBI single in game two against the Yankees, Bryan Woo had five strikeouts in seven innings against the Padres in game three, and Logan Evans pitched six effective innings against the Padres in game one. Despite the offensive struggles against the Yankees, the Mariners got back on track with their sweep against the Padres. Not bad for their week 8 performance in the MLB.
8. San Francisco Giants (Last week 6)

The Giants had a tough 1-2 series loss against the Diamondbacks, but swept the Athletics with ease. Christian Koss hit a grand slam for his first home run in the majors in game two against the D-Backs, Logan Webb struck out four batters in eight innings in game one against the A’s, and Heliot Ramos hit a leadoff homer and a go-ahead single in the eighth inning of game three against the A’s. Despite the impressive game two against the D-Backs, the Giants’ offense couldn’t capitalize on hits in that series, but made up for it in their sweep against the A’s.
7. New York Yankees (Last week 7)

The Yankees had a solid week of baseball, winning both their series against the Mariners and Mets, respectively. Cody Bellinger hit a grand slam against the Mets in game three, Aaron Judge hit his 15th home run of the 2025 season in game three against the Mariners, and Trent Grisham hit two home runs against the Mariners in game one. The Yankees’ offense has been solid and should remain solid against their upcoming opponents in the coming weeks.
6. Chicago Cubs (Last week 10)

The Cubs had a very nice week, winning a 2-1 series against the Marlins and sweeping the White Sox. Pete Crew-Armstrong drove in six runs in game one, Dansby Swanson and Seiya Suzuki both homered in game one, and Matthew Boyd struck out eight batters in six innings in game two. The Cubs’ hitting has been strong this MLB season, and the pitching held the White Sox and Marlins at bay.
5. San Diego Padres (Last week 4)

The Padres started the week well, with a 2-1 series win over the Angels, but were swept by the Mariners. Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a two-run home run against the Angels in game two, but the offense was very quiet against the Mariners’ pitching, and the Padres’ defense struggled at times. The Padres must rebound from their lost series against the Mariners.
4. Philadelphia Phillies (Last week 5)

The Phillies had a tough 1-2 series loss against the Cardinals, but managed to sweep the Pirates with ease. Mick Abel struck out nine batters in six innings in game three against the Pirates, Bryce Harper had two hits and drove in the game-winning run against the Cardinals in game two, and Zach Wheeler pitched six shutout innings in game two against the Pirates. Despite the lost series against the Cardinals, the Phillies played solid and effective baseball against their instate MLB rivals and are very close to potentially toppling the Mets for control of the NL East.
3. New York Mets (Last week 2)

The Mets started the week with a 2-1 series win over the Pirates, but lost a tough 1-2 series against the Yankees. Juan Soto was booed during his return to Yankee Stadium, Francisco Lindor hit a tie-breaking sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to power the Mets against the Yankees in game two, and Brett Baty hit a tie-breaking home run in game two against the Pirates. The Mets ran into a tough roadblock in the Yankees’ pitching, but should rebound in the coming weeks against other opponents. The Phillies are one game behind the Mets for first place in the NL East, and the Mets must defend their hold on first place.
2. Los Angeles Dodgers (Last week 1)

The Dodgers started the week well with a 2-1 series win over the A’s, but were swept by the Angels. Clayton Kershaw returned to the lineup but had a shaky start and allowed three runs in game two against the Angels. Shohei Ohtani homered twice and drove in six runs in game three against the A’s, and Dustin May allowed six hits, four earned runs, and eight strikeouts in six innings played in game one against the Angels. The Dodgers should rebound after their painful series against the Angels, and Kershaw should rediscover his groove in the Majors.
1. Detroit Tigers (Last week 3)

The Tigers had an impressive week, sweeping the Red Sox and winning a 2-1 series against the Blue Jays. Gleyber Torres homered and drove in three runs in game one against the Red Sox, Spencer Torkelson had three RBIs in game three against the Blue Jays, and Riley Greene had three RBIs and a home run against the Blue Jays in game one. The Tigers have earned the best record in all of MLB so far, and they are looking like a very dangerous team to go up against in the coming weeks.
