Week nine of the 2025 MLB season continues to reveal twists and turns in the standings, as each team aims to finish May on a positive note.
While some MLB teams are slipping in the rankings, fortunately, the Rockies are not among them, despite their ongoing struggles that may surpass those of the 2024 White Sox. There is still potential for the Rockies and other underperforming teams to turn things around, but surprising developments can still unfold with plenty of baseball to play.
Here are your MLB power rankings after week 9.
Who are the top-ranking MLB teams after week 9 of action?
30. Colorado Rockies (Last week 30)

The Rockies were swept by the Phillies and lost a 1-2 series against the Yankees. Sure, Ryan McMahon scored a run and two RBIs in game one against the Yankees, but Kyle Freeland gave up nine hits and four runs in 4.2 innings in game two against the Yankees. The Rockies played a decent game three against the Yankees, but couldn’t pull away with the victory. The 2025 Rockies are extremely hard to watch as the struggles continue.
29. Chicago White Sox (Last week 29)

The White Sox lost a tough 1-2 series against the Mariners, but won a 2-1 series against the Rangers. Adrian Houser pitched six solid innings in game two against the Mariners in his first MLB start in a year. Andrew Benintendi had a two-run double, helping power the White Sox against the Rangers in game two. However, the White Sox are still at the bottom of the barrel in the AL Central.

28. Baltimore Orioles (Last week 27)

The Orioles had a challenging series against the Brewers, but managed to split a 2-2 series with the Red Sox. Ryan O’Hearn and Dylan Carlson both hit solo home runs in game four against the Red Sox, while Adley Rutschman hit a three-run homer against the Brewers in game three. However, Chyce McDermott allowed four hits and three runs over 4.2 innings in game two against the Brewers. The Orioles put up a strong fight against the Red Sox but still have significant ground to cover in the AL East.
27. Pittsburgh Pirates (Last week 28)

The Pirates may be in fifth place in the NL Central, but they won a 2-1 series against the Reds and split a 2-2 series against the Brewers. Bailey Falter played seven impressive innings against the Reds in game two, Adam Frazier scored the game-winning run against the Brewers in game two, and Oneil Cruz hit an RBI triple in game three against the Brewers. The Pirates showed strong promise for a chance to compete with the best of the best in the MLB and turn their season around.
26. Miami Marlins (Last week 26)

The Marlins had a rough start to their week, losing a 1-2 series against the Cubs, but won a 2-1 series against the Angels. Jesús Sánchez hit a leadoff home run and a game-ending triple in game one against the Cubs, and Edward Cabrera struck out 10 batters in 5 ⅔ innings against the Angels in game three, but Sandy Alcantara gave up five hits and five earned runs in 5.1 innings against the Angels in game one. The Marlins showed some good promise against the Angels, but have a lot of catching up to do in the NL East.
25. Athletics (Last week 18)

The Athletics had a rough week, getting swept by the Angels and losing a 1-2 series against the Phillies. Grant Holman gave up four hits and five earned runs in 0.2 innings played, Nick Kurtz hit a three-run homer in game one against the Phillies despite the loss, and Willie MacIver hit a tiebreaking single in game three against the Phillies. Despite the massive game three victory over the Phillies, the A’s had a brutal week in the MLB. Kurtz suffered a hip injury and faced offensive struggles.
24. Washington Nationals (Last week 24)

The Nationals had a somewhat good week, defeating the Braves in two games but losing a 1-2 series against the Giants. Jake Irvin pitched eight effective innings against the Giants in game two, and Amed Rosario hit an RBI single in the 10th inning of game two against the Braves. Despite Irvin’s performance in game two, the Nationals must improve on their hitting and pitching if they want to have a respectable 2025 MLB season.
23. Milwaukee Brewers (Last week 21)

Despite a 2-1 series win against the Orioles, the Brewers split a four-game series against the Pirates. Christian Yelich homered twice in game one against the Pirates, and Logan Henderson had seven strikeouts in five shutout innings against the Orioles in game two. The Brewers have had some good moments in the week and should build upon them in the coming weeks.
22. Texas Rangers (Last week 15)

The Rangers had a brutal week, getting swept by the Yankees and losing a 1-2 series against the White Sox. Nathan Evoldi gave up five hits and an earned run in six innings against the Yankees in game one, Wyatt Langford hit an RBI double in game one against the White Sox, despite the loss, and Adolis García hit a two-run double in game three against the White Sox. The Rangers’ offense has struggled outside of game three against the White Sox and must improve quickly.
21. Atlanta Braves (Last week 17)

The Braves had a rough week in week 9 of the MLB, getting swept by the Nationals and losing a 1-2 series against the Padres. Despite Ronald Acuña Jr. homering for a second straight game in the team’s 7-1 victory over the Padres in game two, the Braves had lineup issues in their series against the Nationals and must rebound from their lost series if they want to return to over 0.500.
20. Los Angeles Angels (Last week 25)

The Angels had a good week, sweeping the Athletics, but losing a 1-2 series against the Marlins. Logan O’Hoppe hit two home runs in game three against the A’s, and Taylor Ward hit his 15th home run against the Marlins in game one, but Kyle Hendricks gave up seven hits and three earned runs in game three against the Marlins. The Angels’ bats showed up in their sweep against the Athletics, but took a massive step back in their 1-2 series against the Marlins after week 9 in the MLB.
19. Toronto Blue Jays (Last week 19)

The Blue Jays started the week sweeping the Padres, but were swept by the Rays by the end of the week. Dalton Varsho hit a grand slam in game two against the Padres, and Anthony Santander and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. both homered in game one against the Padres, but Chris Bassitt allowed nine hits and five earned runs in four innings against the Rays in game three. The Blue Jays struggled to score runs in their series against the Rays and dealt with pitching woes in game three against the Rays, and the team has to rebound from that sweep.
18. Cincinnati Reds (Last week 18)

The Reds had a brutal week, losing two divisional series against the Pirates and Cubs, respectively. Austin Hays had three hits and two RBIs in game one against the Pirates, but Nick Martinez gave up four hits and an earned run in six innings played in game two against the Pirates, and struggled against the Cubs’ bullpen. Elly De La Cruz played well in the two series, but the rest of the Reds’ offense must step up.
17. Tampa Bay Rays (Last week 23)

The Rays had a very nice week, winning a 2-1 series against the Astros and sweeping the Blue Jays. Brandon Lowe homered in game three against the Blue Jays, Yandy Díaz hit a three-run homer in game three against the Astros, and Junior Caminero hit a three-run homer in game two against the Blue Jays. The Rays’ offense played with intense momentum and can shake up the AL East if they continue playing hot.
16. Arizona Diamondbacks (Last week 14)

The D-Backs had an awful week, losing a 1-2 series against the Dodgers and being swept by the Cardinals. Brandon Pfaadt became the first seven-game winner of the MLB season in game one against the Dodgers, but the D-Backs lost all three of their games against the Cardinals, despite outhitting them in two out of the three games in the series. The D-Backs showed great momentum in the 2025 MLB season, but should rebound against other upcoming opponents.
15. Boston Red Sox (Last week 20)

The Red Sox started the week with a 2-1 series win over the Mets, but split a series with the Orioles. Carlos Narváez and Rafael Devers each homered against the Mets in game two, and Devers hit a career-high eight RBIs in game one against the Red Sox. The Sox have good offensive firepower and pitching ready to guide them through the competitive AL East.
14. Houston Astros (Last week 16)

The Astros had a decent week. They lost a 1-2 series to the Rays but beat the Mariners in a 3-1 series. Jake Meyers hit a go-ahead home run in game one against the Rays, and José Altuve hit two home runs and drove in four runs in game one against the Mariners. The Astros’ strong offense is slowly picking up steam, and they are a strong and dangerous team in the AL West.
13. Kansas City Royals (Last week 13)

The Royals played well in the week, winning a 2-1 series against the Giants but losing a 1-2 series against the Twins. Kris Bubic threw seven scoreless innings against the Giants in game one, and Maikel Garcia’s RBI single against the Twins in game three helped the Royals out of a tight squeeze. The Royals got things done against the Giants and showed good grit against the Twins in game three.
12. San Diego Padres (Last week 5)

The Padres had a bit of a fall in the MLB standings in the week, being swept by the Blue Jays, but winning a 2-1 series against the Braves. Randy Vasquez gave up four hits and two earned runs in 4.2 innings played in game two against the Blue Jays, but Jake Cronenworth hit the go-ahead home run against the Braves in game three. The Padres’ massive series loss to the Blue Jays stings, but bouncing back against the Braves was necessary.
11. Minnesota Twins (Last week 10)

The Twins played well in the week, splitting a two-game series with the Guardians and winning a 2-1 series against the Royals. Kyle Manzardo scored on an RBI double in game one against the Guardians, before the game was suspended after the fourth inning due to rain, and Ty Frances hit a two-run homer in game one against the Royals. The Twins showed a lot of offensive wonders, despite getting rained out in their series against the Guardians.
10. St. Louis Cardinals (Last week 11)

The Cardinals started the week with a 1-2 series loss against the Tigers, but won a sweep against the Diamondbacks. Sonny Gray struck out 10 batters in six scoreless innings against the Tigers in game one, and Jordan Walker drove in three runs and had two hits in game two against the D-Backs. Despite relief pitcher Zach Thompson being on the injured list, the Cardinals’ offense showed a lot of firepower.
9. Cleveland Guardians (Last week 12)

The Guardians had a very good week, splitting a rained-out series against the Twins and winning a 3-1 series against the Tigers. Gavin Williams pitched six strong innings against the Twins in game two, and Carlos Santana hit a two-run double in game one against the Tigers. The Guardians showed significant improvement in their batting and pitching during week 9 in the MLB and are looking to take control of first place in the AL Central.
8. Seattle Mariners (Last week 9)

The Mariners started the week with a 2-1 series win over the White Sox, but stumbled in a 1-3 series loss against the Astros. Julio Rodríguez hit a grand slam in game one against the White Sox, and Emerson Hancock allowed nine hits, three earned runs, and had three strikeouts in six innings played in game two against the Astros. The Mariners’ offense played well, despite pitching faltering in their series against the Astros.
7. San Francisco Giants (Last week 8)

The Giants lost a tough 1-2 series against the Royals, but bounced back and won a 2-1 series against the Nationals. Hayden Birdsong pitched five solid innings against the Royals in game two, and Robbie Ray pitched six incredible innings, earning a 7-0 record on the mound in game three against the Nationals. Ray and the Giants’ pitching continue to dominate on the mound, while the Giants’ offense is continuing to do their thing.
6. Chicago Cubs (Last week 6)

The Cubs had a great week, winning their series against the Marlins and Reds, respectively. Seiya Suzuki hit a two-run home run in their 14-1 win over the Marlins in game two, and Pete Crow-Armstrong hit two home runs, including a grand slam, in game one against the Reds. Despite losing Miguel Amaya to an oblique strain, the Cubs’ offense is on fire and striking fear into opposing MLB pitchers, thanks to Crow-Armstrong’s performance in the week.
5. New York Mets (Last week 3)

The Mets stumbled out of the gate in their 1-2 series loss against the Red Sox, but took care of business in their 2-1 series win over the Dodgers. Brett Baty drove in three RBIs in game three against the Red Sox, and Juan Soto hit a tiebreaking two-run double with the bases loaded in game two against the Dodgers. Despite Soto slumping, the Mets still have some fight in them and are looking to retake control of first place in the NL East.
4. Los Angeles Dodgers (Last week 2)

The Dodgers started the week well with a 2-1 series win over the Diamondbacks, but lost a 1-2 series against the Mets. Max Muncy hit a sacrifice fly, allowing Shohei Ohtani to score the go-ahead run against the D-Backs in game one, and Teoscar Hernández led the 13th inning with an RBI double against the Mets in game one. Despite the great offense, the Dodgers’ pitching and bullpen took a hit with Edgardo Heinriquez, Kyle Hurt, and Emmet Sheehan all on the 60-day injured list.
3. New York Yankees (Last week 7)

The Yankees had an excellent week, sweeping the Rangers and winning a 2-1 series against the Rockies. Carlos Rodón pitched six strong innings against the Rangers in game three, and the team scored 10 runs in the fifth inning against the Rockies in game two. Aaron Judge and the Bronx Bombers continue to showcase their offensive firepower against opposing MLB pitchers, maintaining their dominance in the AL East standings.
2. Detroit Tigers (Last week 1)

The Tigers started the week with a 2-1 series win over the Cardinals, but lost a tough 1-3 series against the Guardians. Spencer Torkelson had two walks and drove in a run in their game three win over the Cardinals, and Tarik Skuball gave up two hits and had 13 strikeouts in game four against the Guardians. Jackson Jobe suffered his first career loss in game one against the Guardians, but he and the team should bounce back from that series in the coming weeks.
1. Philadelphia Phillies (Last week 4)

The Phillies had an impressive week, sweeping the Rockies and winning a 2-1 series against the Athletics. Kyle Schwarber hit his 300th career home run in game one against the Rockies, and Schwarber hit his 18th home run of the 205 MLB season against the A’s in game two. Schwarber is on fire, while the team’s pitching staff is keeping opposing batters in check.
