Mookie Betts will miss the Los Angeles Dodgers Opening Day against the Chicago Cubs in Japan. The All-Star has been battling sickness since the Cactus League. He was forced to stay out of the exhibition games in Tokyo and will now miss the series against the Cubs.
Surprisingly, MLB fans are unable to find the reason behind the slugger’s sickness. While many thought it was only a stomach bug, it turns out that he had lost 15 pounds. Los Angeles Dodgers fans are upset by the news and are deeply concerned for their SS.
When asked how concerned they are about his sickness on a scale of 1 to 10, fans took to social media to react. Several fans are worried that Mookie Betts lost 15 pounds in such a short span. Here are some of the best fan reactions.
“15 pounds wtf?? I thought he just had a stomach bug or something,” wrote one fan.

“10 because they can’t isolate the source. I know in California Valley Fever can cause that, but he would had a chance to be exposed to it. If it were Valley Fever, he could miss a large part of the season. Let’s hope it’s nothing huge,” one fan chimed in.

Probably a 10 since he’s so sick that he’s lost 15 pounds.

What is the main cause of the illness? Are we talking about the stomach flu or a cold flu? How long has Mookie been sick? To lose 15 pounds he must have been ill for a few weeks.

It's a level 9 concern for me, almost a 10. With access to the doctors and experts they presumably have, how can they not know by now what the cause is? If you don't know the cause it's difficult to prescribe treatment.

It's concerning they still don't know the cause of his illness. Is it the flu, COVID, some other virus, or what? How can you not know by now? Don't they run blood tests and other standard tests? Wouldn't it impact the treatment he's receiving? I don't get it.

Mookie Betts Shows Fatigue After Testing

It’s evident that the World Series hero is not falling in on the right track. The team had Betts come in for testing, and Dave Roberts said he was fatigued. The Boys In Blue will not let him play if he continues to be weak.
“He really showed some fatigue, understandably so. We’ll see how he comes in tomorrow. We’ll try to do a little more. To be able to go through the entire workout and not feel that same fatigue would give us a chance,” Roberts said as reported by TOI.
Roberts is not satisfied with his progress and feels uncertain. Mookie Betts will take it slow and hopes to return for Opening Day at Dodger Stadium when the Dodgers take on the Detroit Tigers. The team thinks that Mookie Betts might have a soft tissue injury.
