Nolan Arenado was heroic on Sunday, but the way he took to the ground and gasped for breath did not look good.
Arenado had quite a scare during the game at Busch Stadium when he took a hard fall into the arm rail of a seat while making a spectacular catch.
After tumbling into the seating area to snag a foul pop-up, he found himself face down in the dirt, clutching his back in pain and gasping for air.
Even after that painful collision, Arenado stood still with his iron will in the game. He received therapy for his sore back for nearly half an hour after the Cardinals secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Diamondbacks.
Though it was not just another blow to the body, and from how he described the next few moments of the collision, it sounded scary.
“It was pretty bad, and I was having trouble breathing there for a little while, so that was pretty tough. I lost my breath for about a minute, and I had never felt that before. Once I got my breath back, I felt like I was OK. You know, I’m still a little bit sore,” Arenado said.

However, manager Oliver Marmol couldn’t help praising the star third baseman’s courage on the ground. Marmol, along with the rest of the Cardinals fan base, might be hoping this blow will be just a minor scratch. St. Louis can’t afford to lose him to an injury for a significant time.

Nolan Arenado Hopeful Of Winning Another Golden Glove

The St. Louis Cardinals pulled off a fantastic win against Arizona, boosting their record to 30-23 after sweeping the Diamondbacks.
Now they’re just two games behind the Chicago Cubs in the standings, which is quite impressive. At this point in the season, only five teams in the NL have more wins than the Cardinals.
And that makes a total of seven teams across all of MLB outpacing them.
It’s amazing to think that many folks predicted the Cardinals would end up at the bottom of the standings this year. But here they are, making a strong case for a playoff spot.
During the game, Nolan Arenado made an incredible catch, reminding everyone why he’s considered one of the best in the game. After the game, he opened up about that play and mentioned how winning the Gold Glove Award again this year would mean a lot to him.
“That would mean a lo,t and I would love to win it again. It would probably be the most special one if I can get that [Gold Glove] back again,” Arenado said.
When Nolan Arenado made this play, he said he took the blow to his kidney and had trouble breathing. He stayed in the game.

Arenado, who last took home that award in 2022, has a chance to add another trophy to his collection. And it would be especially sweet after everything he’s been through.
