It was a bad day to be the Oakland Athletics’ manager. And Mark Kotsay learnt it firsthand.
Kotsay found himself in quite an unusual situation after being ejected from the game against the Phillies.
After his ejection in the seventh inning of a tight 5-4 victory, he had to make a lengthy 330-foot trek to the clubhouse. Which, in this minor league park, is located well beyond the outfield walls.
Unlike most managers who can simply stroll back to their dugouts, Kotsay had plenty of time to think about his frustrations.
And when his time came, Kotsay made the most out of the occasion with a bit of humor.
“It’s long. It’s long, definitely. There was a moment where I thought, should I jog? And then I thought, actually no, I think (Phillies starter Jesus) Luzardo could use a little break,” Kotsay said with a smile.

The Athletics are temporarily playing in Sacramento as they prepare for their eventual move to Las Vegas. Additionally, Sutter Health Park, the home of the Giants’ Triple-A affiliate, isn’t as lavish as major-league stadiums.
This setup can lead to some funny and awkward moments, like Kotsay’s long walk of shame.
Oakland Athletics Manager Kotsay Ejected For Showing Frustration

The Oakland Athletics’ manager earned his ejection for arguing a first-pitch strike call against Miguel Andujar. Miguel was already up to bat with two on and two outs in a crucial moment of the game.
Kotsay felt strongly that the call was wrong, especially since Andujar had also disagreed with a call in his previous at-bat. Unfortunately, after voicing his frustration from the bench, Kotsay’s emotions got the best of him.
He made his way to the plate to let the umpire know just how he felt, with some finger-pointing thrown in for good measure.

Kotsay later shared his thoughts and admitted that he was frustrated with the first call. Although he couldn’t contain his emotions.
As he made that long walk back, the game had to briefly pause, and fans cheered him on. One reporter even clocked his journey at 48 seconds.
Despite his frustration, the Athletics managed to rally and score two runs in the eighth inning, finally snapping an 11-game losing streak.
