The Baltimore Orioles are having their worst start to the 2025 season after falling short in most games. The O’s are at the bottom of the AL East Division with a poor 10-17 record. It’s hard to imagine that they made the playoffs last season.
Baltimore is struggling with injuries, and its starting rotation is falling apart. The O’s have eight pitchers on the injured list, and most of them will return sometime during the midseason. That said, they are going to be in trouble with the current pitching squad.
According to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal, the franchise could cut ties with three players amid ongoing struggles.
“If the Orioles fail to ignite, they could become an intriguing seller, trading potential free agents such as [starting pitcher Zach] Eflin, center fielder Cedric Mullins, and reliever Seranthony Domínguez. Such a pivot, however, would further shrink their competitive window, which already is growing smaller as their young position players get closer to free agency. The Orioles have yet to sign any to extensions,” Rosenthal wrote via The Athletic.

Rosenthal’s statement can come true, given the situation with the team. It makes sense for the O’s to trade these players, especially since they are heading into the free agent market.

The playoffs already seem to be slipping away from the O’s as they continue to struggle against American League rivals. The team scored just five runs in the last three games and was swept by the Detroit Tigers.
The O’s offense failed in their last game after their opponent’s strong shutout. Top sluggers like Gunner Henderson are having a slow start to the season. Despite their pitching struggles, the offense has been a no-show. Baltimore has the worst ERA in the entire league, sitting at the bottom with 5.37.
Struggling teams like the Rockies, Marlins, and White Sox have better ERAs than the Orioles. Baltimore has dropped to the 28th spot in the Week 5 MLB power rankings.
