The New York Mets dropped their seventh straight game on Friday, falling 10-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies in a blowout that ended their hold atop the NL East. Mets’ starting pitching faltered in the seventh, and the offense managed only two runs, both coming from homers by Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil in the sixth. Defensively, errors and poor plays added to their woes as the Phillies scored six runs in a decisive inning.
When asked to explain the skid, first baseman Pete Alonso didn’t hold back and said, “We’re not necessarily in sync on either side of the ball right now. We’re not playing clean baseball, we’re not playing up to our potential. It’s not our standard. It’s been a poor showing the past 7 games.”

Notably, the seven-game losing streak marks their longest slide since July 2023, and their wait for runners in scoring position to deliver continues. Mets are hitting a meager .215 with RISP during the slump.

Friday’s game was a microcosm of the Mets’ troubles. Starter Blake Tidwell provided 3 2/3 innings of promise, but relievers Reed Garrett and Justin Garza imploded, combining to allow six unearned runs in a single inning.
Offensively, aside from Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil’s blasts, the lineup was silent, failing to push runs across when it mattered.

Pitching, defense, and hitting all mumbled. Nick Castellanos’ misplay, dropping a relay throw, turned what could have been a minimal inning into a disaster. The Mets will continue series against Phillies on Saturday and will be looking to put an end to their miserable run.
