The Philadelphia Phillies have tough competition in the NL East with the Mets as a huge threat. The team has one of its best pitchers placed on the IL. Aaron Nola struggled to make ends meet in his last outing, and the team must look for ways to reinforce their starting rotation.
Nola holds a miserable 6.16 ERA and was recently placed on the 15-day IL after surrendering nine earned runs against the St. Louis Cardinals. The perfect trade proposal idea for Philadelphia at this moment is to pivot Chris Bassitt.
The Blue Jays have a few spots to fill to bolster their rotation. Moreover, Bassitt will become a free agent after the 2025 season. This will be the perfect chance for the Phillies to strike a bargain.

Bassitt has a strong 3.16 ERA with a 3-2 record. The right-handed pitcher will be a perfect fit alongside Zack Wheeler, Christopher Sanchez, Jesus Luzardo, and Taijuan Walker. According to Drew VonScio of Newsweek, acquiring Bassitt will be the fifth pitcher on the team to hold an ERA below 3.50.
The Phillies Could Give The Blue Jays A Strong Bat In Return For Chris Bassitt

Philadelphia can benefit greatly from this deal since Bassitt is already 36, and his value could decrease. Bassitt is currently in the final year of a three-year, $63 million contract and has been consistent and effective.

If the Phillies acquire Bassitt, he would not only fill the gap left by Nola’s absence but also serve as insurance in case of any future injuries. On the other hand, sluggers like Alec Bohm are not having the perfect start this season.
Trading Bohm for Bassitt and adding a few more players could help both teams. At present, the Phils need another strong pitcher in their rotation, who could be a strong backup. With the MLB trade deadline looming, they have a great chance to strike a deal with the Blue Jays. However, these are just proposals, and the Blue Jays must be ready to part ways with Bassitt.
The Phillies are desperate to make the World Series in 2025 since many veterans are at the tail end of their careers. Philadelphia is ranked seventh in the week 7 MLB power rankings.
