The Philadelphia Phillies might have started off this season well, but they are having a tough battle with the New York Mets. The Phillies dropped from the top spot in the NL East and are holding a 15-13 record, just two games ahead of the .500 mark.
On the other hand, they are four games behind the Mets. Philadelphia has bullpen issues and they need to fix things soon. Pitching has been a bit unstable for the team. The franchise must focus on getting back in the race if they want to make it to the World Series.
The 2025 MLB trade deadline might be three months away, but the Phillies must keep their eyes open for possible candidates. According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the team is linked to $8.2 million Cardinals star Ryan Helsley.
“The Philadelphia Phillies, among other teams, already are keeping a close eye on Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, who will likely be dealt by the trade deadline. Yet, the Phillies are adamant they will not include top prospects Andrew Painter or Aidan Miller in any trade,” Nightengale wrote via USA Today.

“The Arizona Diamondbacks, with lefty reliever A.J. Puk sidelined for the foreseeable future, also have interest in Helsley,” Nightengale continued.

Nola had a strong game against the Chicago Cubs as he helped the team win. Despite his 0-5 record, Nola had a great game against the Cubs. The starter pitched seven innings and gave up just one run and three hits. Nola recorded six K’s in 99 pitches.
Philadelphia needs to get its pitching under control, and adding players like Ryan Helsey will help the team. However, as Nightengale said, they are not ready to add Andrew Painter or Aidan Miller, and that might be a challenge. The Phillies dropped from No. 15 to No. 7 on the Week 5 MLB power rankings.
