Like all the other serious teams looking to pack their roster, the Philadelphia Phillies are getting one perfect trade linkup.
Just this week, we saw a big move with Rafael Devers heading to the Giants, which has other teams exploring the right pieces.
The Phillies, with a few holes to fill, are in the spotlight for a potential trade as the July deadline approaches.
According to The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, the Phillies should trade for Cedric Mullins of the Baltimore Orioles. Bowden pitched for Philadelphia, sending away their young pitcher Mick Abel in exchange for Mullins and Felix Bautista.

Without a lot of math, the Phillies desperately need help in the bullpen and center field, and this trade could check both boxes. Not to forget, moving forward, Mullins is on a one-year $8,725,000 contract with the Orioles.
Mullins is a fantastic defensive center fielder with a good mix of power and speed, something the Phillies could really use. The catch? Mullins will be a free agent at the end of the season, so the Phillies would have to think about their long-term plans.

Does Giving Away Mick Abel Sound Like A Plan For The Phillies?

While this proposed deal will get the Phillies what they need as of now, giving up Mick Abel wouldn’t be easy. He’s a promising young pitcher who’s shown he could become a star if he keeps developing.
But considering the Phillies already have a strong rotation, they might just think that this trade could be the final piece. Additionally, top prospect Andrew Painter is also set to debut soon.

Beyond this potential blockbuster, the Phillies are also being linked to names like Jake Bird from the Rockies and Kyle Finnegan from the Nationals. Bird brings some promising depth to the bullpen, and Finnegan’s experience could be really beneficial as well.
Ultimately, it’s an exciting time for the Phillies, with big decisions waiting for them ahead. They’ll need to weigh immediate upgrades against the long-term potential of their young stars.
The trade deadline is still a few weeks out, so it’ll be interesting to see what direction they choose to take as they aim for postseason glory.
