Merrill has been out of the Padres lineup after struggling a right hamstring strain. The Padres placed the slugger on a 10-day injured list, but things didn’t go well, and he’s expected to return somewhere during mid-May.

Oscar Gonzales was called up to fill in for Merrill until his return. While he was set to make an early return, Merrill is still making progress. The Padres agreed to a nine-year contract with the rookie slugger after his stellar performance in 2024.
Jackson Merrill came close to winning the NL Rookie of the Year Award last season. However, the honor went to Paul Skenes of the Pirates. Merrill smashed 24 home runs last year and started out this season with a bang.
In just 37 at-bats, the slugger recorded three home runs, 10 RBIs, and 14 hits. He holds a .378 batting average with a .415 OBP and 1.090 OPS. Padres fans are eagerly awaiting Merrill to return. Along with Merrill, Luis Arraez is out on the injured list.
