Juan Soto signed the biggest sports contract with the New York Mets. Many acclaim the star to be a generational talent. His stints with the Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres, and New York Yankees were all impressive. However, his performance with the New York Mets has been awfully slow.
Mets fans are slowly losing their patience since Soto has hit only one home run this season. While he’s getting on base, it’s evident that Soto is slumping. Or, as Sal Licata puts it, the slugger is pressing due to his massive contract with the Mets.
Fans may also expect Juan Soto to perform more frequently after signing for more than $800 million.
Sal isn't concerned about it yet, but he sees Juan Soto "pressing" to prove himself so far.

“I’m thinking he’s pressing. Maybe he’s trying to live up to the contract. Soto has had success his entire career chasing the big contract. Now he got the big contract, can he handle that? He’s been disappointing. Every number is below his career average. It’s not ripping him, it’s just that maybe there is a little bit of pressure,” Sal Licata said.
“Juan Soto was expected to do a lot more than this. He’s even said it. He said I’m gonna go out there and be patient and not expand my zone and take my walks, but I also want to do damage. You better believe that Mets fans expect more, and I’m not even talking about a championship yet,” Licata continued.

Juan Soto’s Absence Is Not Missed In The Bronx As Ben Rice Steps Up

Yankees fans were initially upset after Soto’s departure. However, after seeing his slumping start, they are glad he moved away from the Bronx. Soto’s absence is not missed in the Bronx, as other prospects have stepped up to the plate.
Ben Rice has been spectacular with his performance this season. The rising star smashed four home runs, and his numbers have been way better than Juan Soto’s. While it’s hard to compare Rice and Soto, the truth is that Rice is having a better start to the season.
Moreover, Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt have been consistent with their production at the plate. Soto has his troubles with the Mets, but he’s expected to pick up the pace soon. The MLB season is in full swing, and trade rumors are still swirling around teams like the Orioles.
