There’s a lot happening around Rafael Devers inside the Boston Red Sox locker room, and he’s quite open about it.
After an exciting win against the Kansas City Royals, Devers is in the spotlight about a possible change in his position.
With a jaw-dropping 440-foot home run that clinched the game for the Boston Red Sox, Devers proved once again why he’s such a fan favorite.
However, his teammate, Lucas Giolito, couldn’t help but share his admiration for the star hitter.
“I’m glad he’s on my team and I don’t have to pitch to him anymore. He’s an incredible hitter and we’re very lucky to have him,” Giolito said.

On top of that, there are some conversations happening about whether Devers might shift to first base. This came up after a meeting between principal owner John Henry and manager Alex Cora.

While Devers hasn’t spoken with the media about it, it’s clear that his focus remains on his game. Cora called him “probably the best DH in the American League right now.” And according to him, that says a lot about how vital Devers is to the team’s success.

The Boston Red Sox are going through a bit of a rollercoaster ride this season, especially when it comes to designated hitter Rafael Devers.
After years of being the go-to guy at third base, Devers made a big adjustment this year when the team signed Alex Bregman to take over that position. It wasn’t an easy transition, but it was just the beginning of the challenges for Devers.
When first baseman Tristan Casas was sidelined with a season-ending knee injury, the Red Sox asked Devers to switch positions again. This time to first base.
However, he decided to stick with his role as a designated hitter, and that choice raised a few eyebrows. But now, it seems like he’s proving that staying a DH might just be the right move after all.
Red Sox Manager Alex Cora has been in Devers’ corner, defending his decision. After a recent series against the Royals, Cora shared his thoughts with the media, stating that Devers is finding his groove in the DH role.
“He’s very comfortable. Keeps growing and learning about (being the DH). Strength and conditioning, the trainers and the hitting group, they’ve done an amazing job supporting him. If you look at the numbers right now, he’s probably the best DH in the American League right now,” Cora said.

He mentioned how comfortable Devers is becoming and praised the support he’s been getting from the training and hitting staff. According to Cora, Devers is likely the best designated hitter in the American League right now.
