The Boston Red Sox are ready to make a postseason run after adding Alex Bregman to their offense. Bregman has bolstered their offense and is set to make a playoff run. Boston added a few key pieces to their roster, but they still seem to have some extra room.
Recent rumors have the team turning towards former New York Yankees slugger Dominic Smith. Recently, Smith opted out of his contract with the Bronx Bombers. The Yanks have not kept a spot for Smith on their depth chart, but Boston could have other plans.
It turns out that a few people in the Red Sox organization are looking forward to a reunion with the slugger. Smith’s stint in Boston was limited. He smashed six home runs and was sent to the Cincinnati Reds. After agreeing to a deal in January, the Yankees sent Smith to the minors.
There are some in the red Sox organization who believe a reunion with Dom Smith may make sense, according to @ChrisCotillo and @SmittyOnMLB.

Despite his decent run in the minors, the slugger could not make it to the Yankees depth chart. It’s hard for the Bronx Bombers to find a position for the slugger. Now that he’s a free agent, the Red Sox seem to be the perfect fit for Dominic Smith. The Yanks have turned towards younger stars like Ben Rice instead of a veteran like Smith.
Boston Red Sox Could Find A Position For Dominic Smith

Boston could find a spot for Smith on their 40-man roster. He could be a backup hitter and a great option to step in for defensive help. It’s good to have a veteran slugger on the team who could help the Red Sox, especially when they have injuries.

Dominic Smith’s biggest season was with the New York Mets in 2023. He smashed a dozen home runs and had a decent run for the team. Smith wanted a role with the Yankees. If the Red Sox could give him a position, he might be able to strike a minimal deal.
Smith will not be too heavy on the pockets for Boston. Right now, they can easily have another backup fielder and slugger. On the other hand, the Yankees are trying to bring in a former utility player.
