Juan Soto has been in the headlines over the last week for all the wrong reasons. Soto’s exceptional performance at the plate always exceeds expectations. Yet, the $765 million star is having an awfully slow start with the Mets. Or, as some believe, he’s been a disaster.
Many think Soto’s struggling, but he’s smashed three home runs and gets on base 40 percent of the time. But is that worth all the money? The Yankees’ Ben Rice is doing far better, and so are many other sluggers in the MLB. Their numbers are better than Soto’s. The problem with Soto is that fans want to watch him do more.
Soto’s slow start to the season has drawn huge criticism. Recently, WFAN host Sal Licata unleashed a fiery one-minute rant slamming the Mets star for his slump.
“Juan Soto has stunk to start his Mets career. I never thought I would be at this point with Soto, a guy who I begged and pleaded the Mets to go get a guy I wanted more than any player ever. In my fandom, I wanted Soto. The Mets delivered and every single time this guy has come up in a big spot this year, and there have been plenty,” Licata said.

“You don’t pay $765 million to a guy who gets on base 40% of the time. Bullcrap, every single time he has come up in a big spot he has failed this year,” Licata added.
Mets fans seem to have mixed reactions to Soto’s production at the plate. At the same time, it’s still early in the season. The All-Star can hit the same 40-plus home runs as last season. Moreover, it’s the playoffs that matter.

Juan Soto Looks To A Strong Comeback After His Slow Start

Soto is not a player who gives up with ease. The slugger is known for his consistency and potential to get on base. Many experts believe he’s doing the right thing by taking things slow. Moreover, the Mets are not in a bad spot as they sit on top of the NL East.
Soto said he’s not keen on smashing home runs. He wants to take his walks and get on base as much as possible, with Pete Alonso doing a fantastic job behind him. Juan Soto feels he’s doing everything right.
However, the swag he had with the Nationals, Padres, and Yankees seems to be missing. Or, as many believe, it’s just taking him a while to adjust. To make things worse, Soto’s comment on Aaron Judge being the best hitter in baseball did not sit well.
