Cleveland Guardians reliever Cade Smith had one of the most shocking moments you will see this season, and yet he barely flinched.
During Thursday’s game against the Seattle Mariners, Smith faced a 106.6 mph comebacker off Rowdy Tellez’s bat. The ball struck the brim of his cap and ricocheted off his face before skidding into the infield. Manager Stephen Vogt and the training staff rushed out to check on Smith. Miraculously, Smith stayed in the game and struck out the next batter.

Guardians Struggle At Plate In Brutal Loss

Despite the moment of bravery, Cleveland couldn’t rally. The Mariners won 7–2, powered by a strong performance from starter Logan Gilbert, who tossed 6.2 innings of one-run ball with 8 strikeouts. Seattle’s offense did damage early, putting up five runs by the fourth inning—including a two-run homer from Mitch Garver.
