Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki has taken his defense to another level this season, and his secret weapon might just be written in plain sight.
Suzuki’s glove features two bold Japanese phrases stitched onto the leather: “Absolutely catch it.” and “If you make another error, you’ll be fired”, reported Marquee Sports Network’s Taylor McGregor.
“Over the course of a long season… that one moment… can make or break a play,” Suzuki told MSN, explaining how the inscriptions help him stay locked in every inning.
Seiya Suzuki Enjoying a Fantastic Season

So far in 2025, Suzuki is enjoying on and off the plate. The 30-year-old has logged over 180 innings in the outfield without committing a single error. He has been a key defensive asset for a Cubs team pushing to stay competitive in the NL Central.
He has also made his presence felt at the plate. In a recent win over the Pirates, Suzuki added a solo homer in the sixth, his 17th of the season. The outfielder is now tied for sixth in the National League.

With a .541 xSLG and .370 xwOBA, Suzuki sits firmly among MLB’s top-tier offensive performers. His average exit velocity of 92.3 mph and 49.5% hard-hit rate further confirm the quality of contact he is making.
His 43.2% sweet-spot launch angle rate ranks in the 97th percentile, meaning nearly half his balls in play are hit in the optimal launch zone.
The Cubs are currently 43-28 and will host the Pirates again on June 15 before welcoming the Brewers. With Suzuki locked in and the pitching holding firm, a home-stand push looms.
