Juan Soto recently shocked the baseball world by revealing that the Mets were not the only team to give him the most money. MLB fans, insiders, enthusiasts, and others thought Steve Cohen won the battle because he agreed to pay Soto the most money.
The truth is that Soto got a better offer from another team. It turns out that $765 million was not the highest bid for the All-Star. Soto mentioned that several teams pitched an offer to him, but he picked the Mets.
In a recent video, SNY reporter Andy Martino revealed Soto’s reason for choosing the Mets. Martino did some research and believes that Juan Soto could have cleared $800 million.
“I did a little reporting on this after seeing that interview. It is true that Soto did not choose the Mets simply because they were the highest bidder. I was told there were multiple clubs, including the Red Sox that would have gone higher. He made a decision that was personal to him and personal to his family,” Martino said.
The reporter continued to outline Soto’s choice for siding with the Mets. As Martino says, Juan Soto’s family played an important role in him joining the Mets.
“Soto’s family was not everywhere in Yankees Stadium. Cause there wasn’t a suite, certain places you can go on the field, there’s the clubhouse. I think he could’ve cleared $800 million somewhere else if he wanted to,” Martino continued.
"I think he could've cleared $800 million somewhere else if he wanted to. That speaks to why Juan Soto is on the Mets"

Juan Soto Wanted More Benefits For His Family

As Martino outlines, Soto wanted more benefits for his family. The Mets were probably the only team to give him such benefits. In addition to the financial aspects, the Mets offered him a suite at Citi Field for the duration of his contract.
Soto also secured 22 Delta Club premium seats according to his jersey number. The slugger will receive personal security for him and his family members during home and away games. It was probably hard for Juan Soto to turn away from such a deal.
The slugger is all set to kick off his regular season with the Mets. On the other hand, Yankees fans are trolling Soto for his fielding mishap against the Astros.
