Coby Mayo is not a big name in the big leagues, and neither has the slugger hit a single home run in his career. Instead of making headlines for the right reasons, Mayo is in the news for the wrong ones. The Baltimore Orioles rookie recorded his first big-league RBI with a two-out single that drove in Ryan O’Hearn. However, the play quickly escalated into a chaotic scene.
After rounding first base, Mayo attempted to advance to second, but the White Sox executed a cutoff and rundown. Mayo got caught in a pickle between first and second. He tried to avoid the tag and collided with White Sox second baseman Lenyn Sosa. Miguel Vargas tagged Mayo out after he fell to the ground.

Coby Mayo Regrets That Things Escalated With The White Sox
It was an embarrassing moment for Mayo, and he certainly never wanted it to escalate. It was Mayo’s first career RBI in the big leagues, and it turned out to be a tough one. In a postgame interview, Mayo reflected on the incident.
“Yeah, obviously, just trying to get to second base and trying to get into scoring position for Heston. Cuts it off and got into a rundown. Obviously, just being told in the minor leagues to try to stay in a rundown, and I thought he was in the base line and trying to get some contact. Didn’t mean for it to escalate. I wasn’t trying to do that. It just did,” Coby Mayo said.
