Tommy Pham and the Pittsburgh Pirates were down in Anaheim while playing the Los Angeles Angels. The Pirates had a 2-run lead over the Angels during the bottom of the fifth inning when Pham was caught with an obscene gesture toward a fan.
Pham ran towards the fence to make a play when an Angels fan touched him. The fan reached out with his glove and brushed Pham on his back. The slugger threw the ball back, but was not pleased with the action as he turned back and gave the fan an odd look.
Pham walked back to his position and looked frustrated. After a few seconds, Tommy Pham turned towards the fan sitting in the stands and mouthed something at him. However, his gesture toward the fan looked obscene, and he could be in trouble for his actions.

Pham can be a tough player to deal with, and he doesn’t appreciate such things during the game. Not all players are happy about physical interaction with fans, especially if you don’t see it coming. The Angels fans might not have meant any harm, but Pham was certainly unhappy.

Pham’s start with the Pirates has not been great in 2025. The veteran slugger has zero home runs with six RBIs and 14 hits. In 76 appearances at the plate, Pham has a poor batting average of .184. His OBP is .267, and his OPS is .491.
Being at the tail end of his career, it’s time that Pham started to produce some good numbers. It’s hard for teams to give him an extension if he fails to perform this season. In the last three years, Tommy Pham has played for seven teams, three of them in 2024 alone.
The slugger must step up his performance and try to help the Pirates win. At present, the Pirates are fourth in the NL Central with a 10-15 record. Sadly, they are not one of the favorites to make it to the postseason. The Pirates are ranked at No. 27 on the week 4 MLB power rankings.
