We have seen managers get tossed out of games before. We have seen arguments, yelling, and dirt-kicking tantrums. But what Torey Lovullo pulled off Wednesday night at Oracle Park? That’s a new one.
In the eighth inning of what turned out to be an 8-7 win for the Arizona Diamondbacks over the San Francisco Giants, Lovullo completely lost it after a controversial obstruction call. The moment came when Giants runner Christian Koss collided with D-Backs second baseman Jordan Lawlar. Umpires ruled obstruction and let Koss advance. Lovullo didn’t like that. At all.
He charged out of the dugout, laid into the umpires, and got tossed. Standard stuff, until it wasn’t.
Torey Lovullo Flips the Script, Tries to Eject Umpires

Instead of heading to the showers quietly, Lovullo put on a show. He pointed at each of the four umpires, one by one, mimicking their own “You’re outta here!” gesture and pretending to eject the entire crew. Yes, the manager tried to eject the umpires who ejected him.

Notably, this is not the first bizarre incident to happen in a Diamondbacks game. Last month, Corbin Burnes fired home plate umpire Alfonzo Marquez after a disagreement in the game against Brewers.
This marked Lovullo’s 22nd career ejection, and yes, he admitted afterward that the umps got the call right. “They’re [umpires] really good,” he told reporters. “In the heat of the moment, it wasn’t adding up to me.”
Still, he couldn’t resist throwing a little shade, stating, “I felt like they were just trying to cover themselves a little bit. But in reality, there was an obstruction called.“
Lovullo’s Diamondbacks held on to win, but his antics stole the headlines.
