Max Muncy is officially in “try anything” mode.
After a brutal start to the 2025 season, the Dodgers slugger showed up wearing glasses during Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, hoping it might snap him out of his funk. The results? Not exactly game-changing.
In Friday’s series opener against the Braves, Muncy went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts, dropping his batting average to .184 with a .599 OPS.

So what’s with the glasses?
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal revealed the reason behind donning the glasses.
“You don’t necessarily need glasses, but you might want to try them,” and Muncy figured, “it can’t hurt,” Rosenthal said on air.

Max Muncy’s Slow Start To The Season

It’s been that kind of year for Muncy. Through early May, he’s got just one home run and five RBIs.
His longest home run drought of his career ended in his 106th plate appearance, when he hit his first homer of the season against the Marlins on April 30.
However, he is back in a slump and is reportedly being considered for a trade.
That said, it’s not just bad luck. Advanced numbers show he’s hitting the ball harder than last year. Muncy’s hard-hit rate has increased from 43.4% in 2024 to 48.8% in 2025, and his barrel percentage has risen from 10.8% to 14.0%.
Max Muncy admitted he’s battling with his mechanics, saying he hasn’t been staying back on the ball. He’s trying to fix it by adjusting his lower half to sync up better with his swing.
“When I hold my back side I can do whatever I want with the bat, with my leg kick,” Muncy told The Athletic. “If I’m holding my back side I can do whatever I want to do. When I’m going bad, I’m not holding my back side at all. That’s always been the biggest key for me and that’s also my biggest strength. When I am holding my back side, I’m really, really good. It’s just not easy to do.”
So the glasses are just one part of the experiment.
For now, the glasses might not be a magic fix, but they’re a sign that Max is searching for answers anywhere he can
