Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Toronto Blue Jays are in a tough spot after failing to secure a contract extension. The Blue Jays are not entirely out on Guerrero since they have eight months to give him what he wants. Guerrero mentioned that he would love to remain in Toronto but is also open to other opportunities.
Everyone is aware of Guerrero’s hatred of the Yankees. The slugger mentioned that he would never play for the Yanks if given the opportunity. Guerrero’s animosity towards the Yanks is something personal. However, the All-Star is ready to put that behind, keeping an open door for the Brox Bombers.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said he’s open to all 30 teams, including the Blue Jays. When asked about his grudge with the Yankees, he said he’s ok with everything.
“If I go to free agency, every team, all 30 teams, are going to have the opportunity to sit down with me, to talk to me. I’m OK with everything. It’s in the past,” Guerrero said.
It’s uncertain if the Blue Jays are going to retain Guerrero. Ross Atkins can’t afford to lose one of his best players. They have signed other stars like Anthony Santander but have failed to give Guerrero an opportunity for now.

The Blue Jays have an advantage over Guerrero in the upcoming season. Toronto has eight months to give him the right offer. If they fail, they could trade Guerrero and use his money well. The Cleveland Guardians parted ways with Josh Naylor in the same manner.

At present, Toronto is in a challenging situation. The Blue Jays have two players who will hit the free-agent market. Bo Bichette and Guerrero will join the free-agent market. That said, the Blue Jays will need to make their pick.
It’s hard for the team to retain both sluggers. At the same time, missing out on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will bring lots of hatred from Blue Jays fans. Early rumors have the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets as favorite landing spots.
It’s not too late for the Blue Jays to retain Vladimir Guerrero Jr. MLB insider Ken Rosenthal believes they could still bring him back.
