Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco has resurfaced on social media just days before he is set to face trial in the Dominican Republic on sexual abuse and human trafficking charges. The 24-year-old, once considered a rising MLB star, has largely remained silent since allegations involving a minor came to light in mid-2023.
Franco posted an Instagram story featuring a photo of him in a Rays uniform alongside the Bible verse Genesis 50:20: “Es verdad que ustedes pensaron hacerme mal, pero Dios transformó ese mal en bien para lograr lo que hoy estamos viendo: salvar la vida de mucha gente.”

Translated as “You intended to harm me, but God turned it into good to accomplish what is now being done: the saving of many lives.“
Wander Franco’s MLB Future Remains In Limbo

Franco has not appeared in an MLB game since August 2023. The league placed him on the restricted list and withheld his $8 million salary for the 2025 season. Despite the legal uncertainty, the Rays remain contractually tied to Franco through an 11-year, $182 million deal signed in 2021.
In addition to the trafficking charges, Franco also faces a separate legal case. The case involves illegal firearm possession after a reported altercation in late 2024. He remains under supervised release and is required to report to the court monthly while barred from leaving the country.

MLB officials have stated they will not make any final disciplinary decisions until the legal process is complete. As the trial date nears, the future of Wander Franco’s professional career hangs in the balance.
