If you tuned in for Christian Yelich bombs, you got them. If you stayed for chaos, Joey Bart delivered. The Milwaukee Brewers took down the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 on Thursday night, but all anyone’s talking about is one of the rarest defensive plays you will see all season.
Yelich looked like his old MVP self, smashing two homers and racking up four RBIs in a game that had everything. Even with the Brewers lighting up the scoreboard, it was Pirates catcher Joey Bart who made the play of the night.
In the top of the 7th, with the Brewers threatening to blow the game open, Bart pulled off a bunt double play that instantly went viral.
Joey Bart Impresses With Unique Double Play

With runners on first and second, Brice Turang tried to sneak a bunt down to steal a run. The ball popped just barely off the ground, not quite a line drive, and Bart pounced. He scooped the ball in the air, pivoted, and fired a dart to second base, where Isiah Kiner-Falefa tagged Caleb Durbin for a wild double play.
Bart turned what should have been a productive small-ball play into a clutch defensive shutdown.

Pirates Snap Ugly Streak But Fall Short Again
Before the defensive drama, Yelich did what he does best: launch bombs. He hit a three-run shot in the 1st and followed up with a solo blast in the 6th, giving Milwaukee just enough breathing room.
On the mound, Carlos Rodriguez grabbed the win after tossing 3.1 innings in relief, all of it wrapped around a 1-hour, 50-minute rain delay. He struck out Bryan Reynolds with two on in the sixth, a huge moment that kept momentum in Milwaukee’s favor.
The silver lining for Pittsburgh? They finally snapped their 26-game drought of scoring less than five runs, one of the most painful records in MLB history. Spencer Horwitz chipped in with a solo homer and a ninth-inning RBI, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Yelich and the Brewers’ early burst.
