Tempers flared Monday night at Dodger Stadium when San Diego Padres pitcher Dylan Cease hit Andy Pages in the fourth inning, triggering a tense dugout moment and an explosive reaction from Padres manager Mike Shildt.
Cease’s 97.7 mph fastball clipped Pages’ elbow, drawing an immediate confrontation from the Dodgers outfielder. The umpire quickly stepped in to keep things from escalating. Shildt, however, was not amused by Pages’ reaction and yelled, “Who the f**k do you think you are?” from the dugout.

Dylan Cease Says He Didn’t Plunk Andy Pages Intentionally

Cease, seemingly perplexed, shrugged off the incident after the game and said that it was not intentional.
“I didn’t understand it,” Cease said of Pages’ reaction. “It’s not going to deter me from throwing inside. I don’t know if I’ve ever hit a Dodger before. [He hadn’t.] It just happens. It’s part of the game.”

However, Pages maintained his stance that he was hit intentionally but admitted that he might have overreacted a bit.
“I reacted on adrenaline,” he told reporters in Spanish. “What happened, happened. I tried to find a way to apologize.”
The Dodgers took advantage of the incident. After the HBP, they strung together key hits from Max Muncy and Shohei Ohtani, turning a tight game into a 6-3 win. Muncy’s double scored two, and Ohtani added an RBI single as part of a fourth-inning rally that put San Diego on their heels.
Cease recovered from the tension to limit damage overall, but the Padres fell short in the late frame. Their bullpen contained the Dodgers after the outburst, but San Diego couldn’t recover the lost ground.
