The Philadelphia Phillies are coming off a disappointing loss against their division rival, the Atlanta Braves. Despite having a lead in the beginning, they lost with a 7-5 final score. Kyle Schwarber stepped up for the team, but mishaps got the better of them.
The Braves took advantage of their opponents’ mistakes, scoring a run on a wild pitch. However, the highlight of the day was when Edmundo Sosa and Johan Rojas failed to communicate. It was during the bottom of the second inning that the disaster took place. The Phillies were leading with a 1-0 final score when Austin Riley hit a high fly ball to left center.
Sosa and Rojas rushed to catch the ball, but they had a miscommunication, and both looked at the ball drop to the ground. Here’s a look at the video.

Riley got to second base, giving the Braves an advantage. It was unlikely to watch the Phillies defense falter. The team couldn’t do much as the Braves opened up their offense. Their loss dropped the team to the second spot in the NL East. Juan Soto and the New York Mets have secured the top position for now. The Phillies came off a strong series against the Dodgers and hope to rebound in Game 2.
Edmundo Sosa Made His First Star For The Phillies In The Outfield

It was Sosa’s first start in the outfield for the team. While he did have a mishap, Sosa also made a great play where he robbed Marcell Ozuna of a home run. In the bottom of the first inning, Ozuna cranked one deep to left field. Sosa covered a lot of ground and made a surprising leap to reach over the fence.

The outfielder quickly grabbed the ball, forcing Ozuna to leave the field. Sosa’s catch was a standout spectacular. The Phillies are shuffling their outfielders as Sosa is splitting time with Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh.

From the plate, Sosa has 11 hits and six RBIs. The Phillies will turn in Taijuan Walker to the mound as their starter in Game 2. Just like the Phils, the Dodgers have suffered an unexpected loss, and fans are upset with their performance.
