In a tense Yankees vs. Blue Jays clash on Monday night, George Springer’s painful exit after a collision at third base quickly turned the spotlight on Jazz Chisholm Jr. What should have been a routine tag play turned scary for the Blue Jays when Chisholm’s knee struck Springer’s throat as the veteran slid into the second base.
Springer was left on the ground, gasping for air, and had to be helped off the field. After the game, manager John Schneider confirmed that Springer had taken a knee to the throat and was having trouble breathing, but added that he was doing well.
While Springer avoided a serious injury and is likely to return Tuesday, fans weren’t ready to move on. They blasted Chisholm, especially considering the Yankees star’s history with rough tags.
Notably, in the game against the Kansas City Royals earlier in June, Jazz Chisholm had threatened Maikal Garcia after a rough tag.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Shines In 100th Game As A Yankee Despite Loss

While the Blue Jay fans were frustrated with Chisholm’s play, Yankees fans had something to cheer for. The 27-year-old hit a 2-run home run in his 100th game as a Bronx Bombers player.
Jazz joined the New York team in July last year, and since then, he has hit .257 with 24 homers, 58 RBIs, and 28 stolen bases in 99 games. The Yankees’ third baseman has been in tremendous form since his return from injury, averaging .328 with seven homers and over .900 OPS.
Jazz Chisholm will be next seen in action on Tuesday as the Yankees face the Blue Jays for Game 2.
