After a long negotiation over terms and conditions, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is finally at the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays snapped a monumental 14-year, $500 million extension with Guerrero Jr., the third-largest deal in MLB history.
While the money on the line sounds fascinating and a long-term contract, there’s more for the Blue Jays to think.
With Guerrero at the helm for Boston, they are avoiding going into a rebuilding phase. What started during the post-pandemic times now looks like a solved puzzle for the team.
Initially, Vlady, along with Bo Bichette, “didn’t quite pan out.” There was unrest among the Blue Jays fanbase about a potential trade-off for both of them. Now that Guerrero Jr. has committed for a good long decade, things stand at peace.

The Yankees, who were previously in discussions over the potential availability of Guerrero, now face a pressing need to find a long-term first baseman. With Guerrero off the board, the Yankees will be focusing more on their current roster alignment.
What Soto did with his historic deal with the Mets to the outfielder market, Guerrero Jr. is doing somewhat the same for the first baseman market. After his lucrative extension, position players can have something to look for.
And the teams might be paying more to such open positions if they have to sign a Vladmir-caliber player.
