The Arizona Diamondbacks are hanging in there, but they’re up against some tough competition in the National League West. With a record of 36-35, they find themselves fourth in a pretty competitive division.
How they perform in the coming weeks could really shape their approach at the trade deadline. If they decide to part ways with some talent, the New York Yankees might start looking their way.
The Yankees are on a mission to snag a World Series title this year, their first since 2009. To make that happen, they could definitely use another big bat, and Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suarez could be a perfect fit.
According to Buster Olney of ESPN, “the Yanks would be in on him.”
“Hazen will have a lot of say about what happens at this year’s trade deadline because if Arizona decides to trade talent, he’ll dangle a highly marketable set of players. Josh Naylor (Could the Mariners be interested? Or the Giants?)Eugenio Suarez (Yankees would be in on him), Merrill Kelly and Zac Gallen would become some of the best options, and other GMs like to trade with Hazen because they find him communicative and decisive,” Olney wrote.
The Yankees could pursue third baseman Eugenio Suarez at the trade deadline if the Diamondbacks decide to sell, according to Buster Olney.

Suarez has been having a great season so far, leading Arizona with 21 home runs and a solid 57 RBIs. Sure, his batting average is sitting at .233, but his power numbers tell a different story.

He’s hitting for power and making solid contact, which is exactly what a team like the Yankees needs right now.
Does Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suarez Make Sense For Yankees?

The Yankees are reportedly looking for additional offensive power in July, potentially signaling a need for an offensive spark despite their already strong lineup.
But with all of this on the line, does the Diamondbacks’ Eugenio Suarez make sense?
Suarez has great power-hitting capabilities, and the numbers back him up as well. He’s holding a current batting line of .233/.307/.527 and an impressive .834 OPS, with 21 home runs already this season.
He could generate hard contact backed by his high barrel rate and hard-hit rate, which are both in the top percentiles according to Baseball Savant.

Although he may not excel in batting average, he fits the Yankees’ power-hitting identity, particularly in the dimensions of Yankee Stadium. And that makes a good case for him.
Defensively, Suarez has faced challenges, currently holding a -3 Outs Above Average rating at third base. But the Yankees have historically prioritized offensive production over defensive shortcomings.
Depending on the lineup requirements, Suarez could contribute as a corner infielder or designated hitter. Additionally, the fact that Suarez is on an expiring $15 million contract makes him a particularly appealing option for the Yankees.
