The New York Yankees finally scored, ending a 30-inning drought with solo home runs by Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the 2nd and Cody Bellinger in the 4th. But just as hope returned, it slipped away again. Despite those blasts, the Yankees fell 3-2 to the Angels, marking their sixth straight loss.
The game turned on a costly error by shortstop Anthony Volpe in the top of the 8th. With the bases loaded and one out, Jo Adell hit a sharp grounder. Volpe bobbled it and threw wide of second base, allowing Mike Trout to score the go-ahead run. That mistake allowed Los Angeles to take a 3-2 lead, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Volpe, who joined the Yankees in 2021 and won a Gold Glove in 2023, made his ninth error of the season, making him one of the league leaders among shortstops.

Volpe‘s rough night continued at the plate, he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, including striking out to end the game.
The offense didn’t help much either. Aaron Judge went 0-for-4 and is slumping, now 3-for-28 over his last eight games. Recently, the Yanks were called out for their poor performance.
The Yankees face the final game of the series on Thursday, looking to avoid a four-game sweep at home. Carlos Rodon gets the start for New York, while the Angels will send Tyler Anderson.
