DJ LeMahieu is having a tough time after injuries and a subpar 2024 season. Earning a spot on the Yankees roster is going to be a challenge for the veteran slugger. LeMahieu needs to stay healthy if he wants to be a part of the 40-man roster. However, his performance seems to have taken a huge dip.
The Yanks are having their workout as they enter spring training against the Tampa Bay Rays. Unfortunately, things are not going well for the third baseman. LeMahieu didn’t look good in his live BP sessions against minor-league pitcher Luis Velasquez.
A video of DJ LeMahieu striking out against Velasquez has surfaced online, and Yankees fans are unhappy about his progress. Fans took to social media to react to the video.
Here’s a look at some fan reactions below.
“He better not be in the opening day lineup … which means he definitely will be,” one fan wrote.

Time to hang it up, DJ it was a good run!
Didn’t he take 2 months off? Apparently it was his longest break in a decade

He’s done. Was great for a number of years but it’s time to buy him out.

DJ LeMahieu’s Position At Thrid Base Remains Questionable
The Yankees have not signed an external player to fill their third base position. Jazz Chisholm Jr. will take Gleyber Torres’ position at second base, while the team turns to internal options. Yankees GM Brian Cashman mentioned that Oswaldo Cabrera, Oswald Peraza, and DJ LeMahieu would be a few options.
It’s going to be a tough shot for LeMahieu since he needs to earn his spot by beating the younger players. The veteran must be fit both offensively and defensively. The Yankees are sure to experiment with their three internal options.
For now, LeMahieu might be given limited time while Cabrera and Peraza shuffle in between. LeMahieu recently opened up on his frustrating season with the Yanks last year.
