The New York Yankees might have just found their next third baseman. And no, it’s not a blockbuster trade or a top-ranked infielder. Instead, it’s Jesus Rodriguez, a catcher by trade, who is now getting serious looks at the hot corner.
With current players like Oswaldo Cabrera, Oswald Peraza, Jorbit Vivas, and Pablo Reyes rotating through the position due to injuries and inconsistent performance, the team is reportedly considering alternative solutions.
Even LeMahieu, who was expected to stabilize the spot, is hitting just .211 with a single homer since returning. Combined, Yankees third basemen are batting .199 with just two homers.
Yankees Considering Jesus Rodriguez As a Potential In-House Solution

According to Fansided, catching prospect Jesus Rodriguez, ranked as the Yankees’ No. 30 prospect, is making a strong case for consideration.
In Triple-A, he is slashing a slick .321/.406/.409 with a homer, and while the power numbers aren’t jaw-dropping, his bat-to-ball skills are legit.
While primarily a catcher, he has experience playing first base, second base, third base, and left field.

Despite defensive struggles, including six passed balls, seven errors, and 59 stolen bases allowed in 24 games as a catcher in 2024, Rodriguez has been utilized exclusively as a third baseman and catcher this season.
Notably, the Yankees are known for developing players at positions they may not be naturally suited for. Rodriguez’s versatility could provide the team with much-needed depth at third base.
If this experiment proves successful, Rodriguez could be a valuable addition to the Yankees’ infield options.
