The New York Yankees are up against the Tampa Bay Rays for a three-game series, and out of all the things, they can’t afford an injury.
The Yankees’ shortstop, Anthony Volpe, had a recent brush with injury, which had everyone holding their breath.
The incident happened during an intense moment in Saturday’s game against the Rays. While diving for a ground ball, he felt what he described as a “pop” in his left shoulder.
It almost immediately sparked concern among his teammates and the Yanks fanbase.
Additionally, the situation only added to second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s news as he has been sidelined for at least a month due to a right oblique strain.
Anthony Volpe says he felt a "pop" in his shoulder in the 8th inning but he felt okay afterwards.

As Volpe went through a series of strength tests on the field, it felt like the worst possible scenario was looming. Fortunately, manager Aaron Boone later reported that X-rays and an MRI came back with “good news.”

The NY fans can breathe a little easier.
Despite the scare, Volpe remained determined to stay in the game. He mentioned that once the initial shock wore off, he felt fine and still had his strength.
What’s Next For The Yankees Amid Injury Woes

The New York Yankees are in a bit of a tough spot right now with some key injuries. While Chisholm is going to be out for a little while, Volpe just hurt his shoulder.
That means the Yankees are relying on Pablo Reyes and Oswald Peraza to fill in at second base and shortstop. It’s certainly not an ideal situation, especially if Volpe’s injury turns out to be serious.
Given these challenges, many theorists are buzzing about a possible trade for Brendan Donovan from the St. Louis Cardinals.

Donovan has been having a fantastic season, hitting .333 with three home runs, and he would be a solid addition to the team, taking over at second base.
The Cardinals are currently struggling in fourth place in the NL Central, which might make them open to trading some of their players for prospects.
This could be a perfect opportunity for the Yankees to snag Donovan. Not only would he be able to step in and help out now, but when Chisholm comes back, the Yankees could have him and Donovan split time at third base.
Plus, Donovan can also play in the corner outfield if needed, giving the Yankees even more flexibility.
