The New York Yankees are expected to be one of the many teams ready to shake things up ahead of the deadline. The Bronx Bombers have a full rotation, but they could also explore other options.
Recently, rumors have surfaced about the team considering a familiar face to bolster its infield. This might come as a surprise, especially since they already have an infield full of talented players. However, a utility man will not harm the team.
It turns out that the Pittsburgh Pirates slugger and former Yankees star Isiah Kiner-Falefa is a surprise target for the team. Kiner-Falefa is a Gold Glove winner in 2020, and he’s enjoying his time with the Pirates. The Yanks might be able to turn things around when they bring in Kiner-Falefa.

Could the Yankees, who showed interest last year, make sense to shore up the infield?

A huge advantage with Kiner-Falefa will be his ability to play multiple positions. The slugger is not new to the Bronx since he has played for the team in 2022 and the 2023 season. Kiner-Falefa is in the final year of his contract and the Pirates expected to be sellers at the deadline. That said the Yanks will have a great shot at signing him.
Yankees Would Have The Upper Hand With Isiah Kiner-Falefa

Since the slugger has played for the team before, the Yanks will have the upper hand when it comes to signing him. Kiner-Falefa is familiar with the franchise functions. He’s played along with big stars like Aaron Judge, and he’s also been under the guidance of Aaron Boone.

The Pirates star has only one home run in 212 appearances at the plate. However, he has a decent .288 batting average. His OBP is at .333 while his OPS is at .691. It’s a little hard to consider the Yankees trading for him with these numbers, but they might need an extra bat to help them out in the playoffs.
The Pirates are reportedly fielding calls on several veterans, but Kiner-Falefa is among the most likely to be moved. One major reason for his parting ways with the team is his expiring contract. The Pirates had a rough time against the Tigers recently, and Dennis Santana was caught in an ugly moment with a fan.
