With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Yankees are one of the few teams involved in rumors. The Boston Red Sox are one team that could again stir the MLB world with another shocking trade. Boston traded superstar Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants last month. The AL East team could be tempted to give away infielder Alex Bregman to save their falling season.
According to Jeff Passan, several teams, including the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs, could go for Bregman.
When asked if Red Sox could or should trade the two-time World Series winner, Passan said, “If they continue playing the way they have, a .500 baseball team, they absolutely would [trade him].“
When asked about the potential teams that could target Bregman, Passan picked a few, including their divisional rivals.
“I don’t know if the Yankees and Red Sox would ever pull off the trade, but the Yankies could surely use a third baseman,” Passan said.
Apart from the Yankies, Passan also linked Bregman to the Detroit Tigers, New York Mets, and Chicago Cubs.
“The Tigers’ most inconsistent position has been third base,” Passan said. “They were runners-up to sign Bregman this winter. The Cubs were also in the mix.”

“I don’t know if the New York Mets are going to need him…but surely the Mets have the finances to go out and do that,” the MLB Insider added.
Alex Bregman Could Still Bring High Value To The Yankees Despite Being Injured

Alex Bregman may be on the injured list with a strained right quad. However, several teams are interested in getting him on their roster. While his trade value might have taken a slight hit since the injury, he can still bring high value if the Red Sox decide to sell.
Before the injury, Bregman was having a strong season. In 197 at-bats, the 31-year-old was slashing .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs.
As Jim Bowden wrote, Bregman still holds real value for any playoff team, and the Yankees would be the perfect fit.
“He has two $41.7 million options remaining on his contract, but can opt out after this season or next. He would bring valuable postseason experience and production (19 homers in 99 playoff games) to an acquiring team”, Bowden wrote.
With the Red Sox’s season crumbling, Bregman and Lucas Giolito could be the team’s most valuable trade chips to land quality prospects. Whether the front office decides to make that move will become clear before the July 31 trade deadline.
