The Yankees have managed to stay on top of the AL despite losing Juan Soto before the season even began. Their offense, led by Aaron Judge, has been firing on all cylinders for most of the year. On the mound, both Max Fried and Carlos Rodon have delivered consistently.
WFAN radio host Chris McMonigle recently claimed that the Yankees have looked like a better team without Juan Soto. Surprisingly, the results back him up. But even with a strong roster, the Yankees aren’t sitting still.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Yanks are among the teams likely to be “aggressive” in the market ahead of the trade deadline.
“The American League is wide open,” Nightengale wrote in his USA Today column, “and the Yankees are poised to take full advantage of the opportunity.”
The veteran MLB Insider revealed that the Yankees’ main priority is to get either a third baseman or a second baseman.
With Red Sox’s Alex Bregman is far from their reach, the Bronx Bombers have reportedly set their eyes on Arizona Diamondbacks Eugenio Suarez and Pittsburgh Pirates’ Isiah Kiner-Falefa.

Suarez is having a strong season for the Diamondbacks, batting .253 with 25 home runs and 67 RBIs. Kiner-Falefa, on the other hand, is more of a defensive asset, hitting .276 with solid versatility across the infield.
Yankees Are Not Done With Pitchers

Nightengale further added that the Yankees would “like to have one more arm” in the bullpen despite already having Devin Williams and Luke Weaver. However, their “ultimate prize” could be Sandy Alcantara. The former Cy Young winner is still finding his rhythm after Tommy John surgery, but remains one of the most talented arms on the market.
However, getting Alcantara won’t be easy for the New York side, which is most likely to face tough competition from the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are reportedly also eyeing the Miami Marlins pitcher. The right-hander has posted a 2-1 record with a 2.74 ERA over four June starts.
While the Yankees already look like a team that can go far in the postseason, adding any two of these three players would make them a strong title contender.
