Alex Pereira is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of this era. Aside from Jon Jones, few can sell pay-per-views like he does. Last year, he was at his absolute best, dominating three top opponents and proving his elite status. However, 2025 hasn’t started well for him, as he suffered a loss to Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 313. Despite the setback, Pereira remains calm under pressure, stating that he doesn’t need to change his game plan, only refine specific techniques.
Talking to UFC Brasil, ‘Poatan’ acknowledged that some things would change for a potential rematch with Magomed Ankalaev, but emphasized there’s no need for a complete overhaul. He clarified that he doesn’t need to retrain or reinvent his fighting style. Instead, he plans to focus on refining and correcting specific techniques. Pereira remains confident in his overall approach, suggesting that the adjustments required are minor, technical, and strategic. His mindset stays consistent despite the recent loss.
“Something will be different, but these are details. It’s not like I have to retrain and change my game, no. It’s the same thing, just correcting some technique,” he said.

Indeed, Pereira may have lost, but it wasn’t a one-sided affair. He stuffed takedowns, stayed composed under pressure, and landed cleaner shots throughout key moments. While the judges didn’t see it in his favor, the performance showed he’s still operating at the highest level, and a rematch could tell a very different story.
Alex Pereira Dismisses Magomed Ankalaev’s Trash Talk

Former UFC champ believes Ankalaev is using his name to gain attention and promote himself. Not many people even know Ankalaev is the current champion, so mentioning him helps Ankalaev stay relevant. Pereira refuses to react to the provocations, recognizing them as nothing more than a marketing move.
