There’s a lot of unfinished business between Belal Muhammad and Kamaru Usman. The tension between them isn’t just competitive; it’s personal. Think Conor vs. Khabib’s level of animosity. These two can’t stand each other. Despite years of back-and-forth, they’ve never settled the score inside the Octagon. But that might be about to change. Now that Belal has lost his title, he’s no longer tied down and is open to facing Usman. In fact, he’s willing to make it happen this year.
For those who don’t know, the tension between Muhammad and Usman isn’t new, and it didn’t start in the cage. It all began on the Pound 4 Pound podcast, co-hosted by Usman and Henry Cejudo. Belal was invited on as a guest, but things quickly escalated. What started as talk became a full-blown confrontation, with both fighters refusing to back down.
And now, speaking on Remember The Show, Belal Muhammad clarified he’s laser-focused on reclaiming UFC gold. He believes he’s just one win away from earning another title shot, and all signs point toward a potential showdown with ‘Nigerian Nightmare.’ If Usman gets past Joaquin Buckley, the ex-UFC champ sees that fight as the next logical step.
“I’m gonna be the guy that gets the belt again. I’m one fight away from winning the belt… I feel like it’ll be Kamaru [next] if he gets past Buckley…For me, the dream month would be October. But not all the way in Abu Dhabi,” he said.

He even has a timeline in mind, eyeing October as the perfect month for this long-awaited clash, though he’d prefer it not to be in Abu Dhabi.

Talking about what happened, Cejudo mentioned that the meeting was arranged by their manager, Ali Abdelaziz, who works with all three fighters. Both Usman and Belal Muhammad hinted that tensions rose during the podcast filming, with Cejudo suggesting Usman was the one to spark the conflict. After Muhammad secured the welterweight title at UFC 304, Usman expressed his desire for a title rematch, leading to heated social media exchanges.
Subsequently, when they finally met on the podcast, the atmosphere became intense. Cejudo described how the situation escalated, noting that it turned physical. He found himself in the middle of the action, trying to separate them while dealing with a sprained ankle, as production staff rushed in to break up the scuffle. And now it will be interesting to see them settle the unfinished business.
