Daniel Cormier has a surprising theory about the UFC ‘BMF’ belt. The title is currently scheduled to be on the line in UFC 318. The champion, Max Holloway, will face off against the challenger, Dustin Poirier. However, while the matchup looks like a potential banger, things might get a bit more interesting. As per Cormier, if Poirier manages to win the title, the UFC might want to retire it!
Speaking with ‘ESPN MMA,’ DC stated that the BMF title might not exist anymore. He said if ‘The Diamond’ wins the title from Holloway, there’s a chance that Dana White and Co. might want to be done with the belt.
“Dustin Poirier wins the title and walks away. Title goes out the door with him,” said Cormier.

Surely, Cormier does have a point here. As Poirier has announced already, the UFC 318 fight will be the last of his career. Thus, if he wins the title, vacating the same immediately will be a complicated affair. Therefore, we might see the UFC being done with the moniker altogether. Meanwhile, announcing his retirement, Dustin Poirier pointed out the exact moment he knew it was all over.

The 5th ranked UFC Lightweight fighter, Dustin Poirier, recently mentioned the exact moment he knew that it was time. Facing off against Islam Makhachev, Poirier had a golden opportunity to become a champion. But while he failed, ‘The Diamond’ stated that he knew this was it. Poirier understood that he might never get a chance to fight for the belt at all.

“In the moment [at UFC 302], I felt like this might be it, this is it… I didn’t officially announce my retirement, but I felt like this was it. I came short of another title fight. I’m never going to get another fight. I have to win 10 in a row to probably get another one, and I don’t think I have it in me to go through what it’s going to take to get another one,” said Poirier.
Thus, with the hype building up further, things are looking quite interesting as UFC 318 draws close.
