It is not a wise decision for a UFC fighter to stand up to Max Holloway. UFC 300 showed what could happen to the best of the best if Holloway starts to box! But even then, Dustin Poirier does want to take up the challenge willingly. Having etched his name as a UFC legend, ‘Diamond’ intends to take up one last challenge. To knock out the menacing Max Holloway. With the BMF title on the line, Poirier is looking to sign off his UFC career on a high.
In a recent interaction with ‘MMA Junkie,’ Poirier detailed his thought process going into the final battle. Poirier initially stated that the ideal way for him is to play safe. Get the five rounds out clean without taking any significant damage to the face needing to be stitched up. But that was not how Poirier was going to plan his retirement. Instead, he wanted a full-blown war inside the octagon.
“That would be nice, get in, retire clean, go home with no stitches for my daughter. But in true knucklehead fashion, I’m gonna stand in the middle and trade with Max and we’re gonna bleed and put on a show for the last one,” said Poirier.

Surely, such a statement coming from ‘Diamond’ is not at all surprising. All throughout his career, Poirier has always looked to entertain the crowd to the fullest. And now, when Poirier is on the verge of retirement, he is hanging up his gloves without an iota of hesitation.
Dustin Poirier Retiring On His ’Own Terms’

Poirier will have his last dance in UFC 318. But as his decorated career comes to an end, Poirier will be retiring quite content. This is because Poirier will be stepping away from the octagon as he wishes. No injuries or other external variables are affecting his career decision. And in an overly uncertain sport like MMA, being able to do so is almost like a dream.
