Georges St-Pierre has long been one of the UFC’s most respected and controversy-free superstars. Known for his humility, professionalism, and avoidance of heated rivalries, GSP has built a reputation as one of the nicest guys in the sport. However, years after his retirement, he finds himself at the center of a major controversy after posting a picture from a bear hunting trip. Facing backlash, St-Pierre has now spoken out, defending the act as legal and ethical and calling out hypocrisy around factory farming practices.
On X, GSP pointed out the inconsistency in public outrage, noting that many overlook the cruelty of large-scale poultry and meat factories while reacting strongly to regulated hunting. St-Pierre said his hunt followed a controlled process to source organic meat, which he believes offers a more humane alternative. He urged people to consider where their food comes from and how others produce it.
“I don’t understand why some people don’t seem to be concerned about inhumane poultry and meat factories, but are outraged by controlled and legal hunting for organic meat,” he said.

A fan said many people can’t think clearly and get upset over GSP’s hunt, calling it “Mass Hysteria.” GSP replied that some would rather see animals suffer in the wild than let others enjoy organic meat with their families. Indeed, GSP didn’t expect everyone to turn against him, but he has clearly made his point about why he chose to hunt.
Georges St-Pierre Reveals The Toughest Opponent He Ever Faced

Before UFC 315, GSP was asked who his toughest opponent was. He quickly said BJ Penn, calling him very skilled. GSP said Penn’s nickname was “The Prodigy” because he was the first American to win a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt championship in about three and a half years. This showed how talented and dedicated Penn was.

BJ Penn was truly a legend, always bringing intensity to the octagon. While Penn remains one of Georges St-Pierre’s toughest opponents in the cage, GSP now faces a different kind of challenge. Following the recent hunting controversy, he is battling criticism and public opinion outside the sport, making this perhaps his most difficult fight beyond MMA.
