Alex Pereira has been one of the biggest dominant forces in the UFC in modern days. Having become a two-division champion, his current reign in the UFC light heavyweight division has been more than phenomenal. In what was an absolute shocker, Pereira defended his title not once but thrice in 2024. This made him attain an ‘invincible’ status. However, before all of this, coming into the UFC as a kickboxer, very few had the faith in Pereira to go the distance.
That is, except for Joe Rogan. The UFC color commentator was pretty much excited about the prospects of what Pereira is bringing into Dana White’s promotion. He even went on to foreshadow a bright future for ‘Poatan.’ Unfortunately, his fellow commentator, Daniel Cormier, did not want to believe Rogan back then.
Appearing on the ‘Fight Companion’ series, Rogan recalled the incident. He said, “Bro, I remember I was telling people about him before he entered the UFC. I was telling DC (Daniel Cormier). DC didn’t believe me. He was like, ‘Come on.’ I go, ‘Dude, you gotta listen to me. You gotta listen to me. This guy has that crazy power. He’s got somethting weird, where he hits guys, they look confused.’ I watched him beat everything.”
Surely, Rogan was right in his analysis of Alex Pereira as a fighter. Now, with his fourth championship defense coming up in March, ‘Poatan’ is looking as confident as ever. After his opponent, Magomed Ankalaev had some aggressive words to throw at him, Pereira remained undeterred.
Alex Pereira Wants To Treat Magomed Ankalaev As ‘Any Other Guy’
The upcoming fight between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira has created a significant buzz among the fans. In the meantime, Ankalaev himself has upped the ante further by claiming to knock Pereira out. The champion, however, does not seem to be bothered by all the noise.
Reacting to Ankalaev’s verbal attack, ‘Poatan’ stated, “I’m training, honestly, as if I were fighting any other guy. I think the only thing that changes is that he’s left-handed, but that doesn’t make any difference.”
