The tension between Kamaru Usman and Belal Muhammad is undeniable, with the two often taking shots at each other. Their rivalry escalated to the point where Usman got roasted so badly that he physically tried to fight him during a podcast appearance with Belal. Now, as UFC 314 approaches, with Belal set to face JDM for the welterweight title, Usman is back at it, throwing shade at Belal’s aspirations of becoming a double champion.
Usman believes that Belal Muhammad hasn’t done enough to dominate the welterweight division to earn a shot at a second title. He suggests that if Muhammad wants to move up and fight DDP, he should vacate the welterweight belt, as he hasn’t faced all the top contenders in the division yet. Usman emphasizes that there are still many fighters waiting for their chance and Muhammad hasn’t taken on all of them.
Usman also points out that he remains near the top of the division. From his perspective, as well as the company’s and the current champion’s, if he beats another top fighter, it will be clear that he’s the rightful contender for the title.
He said, “If Belal wants to go up and fight DDP, then he vacates the title…Who cares? He hasn’t gone through the division to say, ‘Hey, I want double straps.’…I’m still there in the top three of the division. I go in and I beat up somebody – from the company’s perspective, from my perspective, for our champion’s perspective.”
Belal Muhammad Took Shot At Dricus Du Plessis Over His Soft Opponent

On the Jon Anik podcast, Belal didn’t hold back when talking about Dricus Du Plessis, saying he doesn’t think he’s that good. He called out Dricus’s opponents, saying Sean Strickland had just fought Paulo Costa, which wasn’t a tough matchup, and that Israel Adesanya was coming off a loss. Belal made it clear that Dricus hasn’t faced the real challenge of hungry fighters who are well-rounded and tough.
