It was an action-packed night in Las Vegas as Josh Emmett went five hard rounds with Lerone Murphy but came up short on the scorecards. Murphy kept his unbeaten record intact and notched his eighth consecutive victory inside the Octagon by outworking Emmett in the main event of UFC Vegas 105. For the 33-year-old rising contender, the victory was a crucial step toward a potential title shot. After the fight, Murphy set his sights even higher, calling out the division’s No. 6-ranked contender, Brian Ortega.
Murphy secured his 16th career win with a unanimous decision over the 40-year-old veteran, earning scorecards of 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46. After the bout, ‘The Miracle’ expressed his desire to face a higher-ranked opponent next, calling out Brian Ortega. He confidently claimed he’d finish the former title challenger. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, the 33-year-old said:
“If I got a finish, I was going to call for the title. Where’s Brian Ortega ranked? Diego Lopes went up to get a title shot after fighting him. So let’s go, Brian Ortega!”
Ortega, a two-time title challenger, has struggled recently, losing three of his last four bouts. His most recent defeat came at the hands of Diego Lopes at UFC 306. With Murphy now calling him out, there’s a strong possibility this matchup could actually come together.

Murphy extended his undefeated streak to 16-0 with a unanimous decision win over Josh Emmett in the UFC Vegas 105 main event. Despite clearly outscoring the 40-year-old Emmett, fans at the UFC Apex were far from impressed, booing Murphy out of the octagon for what they saw as a defensive and uneventful performance.

Emmett, back in action after nearly two years and known for his explosive fighting style, found it difficult to land clean shots as ‘The Miracle’ stuck to a cautious and defensive approach. The Apex crowd, unusually vocal, responded with boos and criticism both at the venue and online—calling it one of the worst events ever and accusing Murphy of “running” throughout the bout.
Murphy, however, clapped back in his post-fight interview, proudly celebrating his undefeated record and dismissing the negative reactions. Despite the criticism, the 33-year-old secured the win and now has his sights set on a title shot within a fight or two.
