Jon Jones’ legacy in the UFC remains unmatched. His dominance across both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions is beyond comparison. However, many are questioning Jones for not fighting Tom Aspinall, with some suggesting he’s avoiding the English contender. Meanwhile, MMA veteran Chael Sonnen has claimed that Jon Jones fears being forgotten if Aspinall brings an end to his championship reign.
Sonnen suggests that Jon Jones is delaying the fight with Tom Aspinall because he wants a guaranteed rematch if he loses. According to Sonnen, Jones is concerned that the UFC doesn’t have a plan for him if he’s no longer champion. At 36, with his career nearing its end and Aspinall seen as the future, Jones fears being forgotten.
“Jon has a concern, ‘they (the UFC) don’t know what to do with me if I’m not champion. And if Tom beats me and he doesn’t give me a rematch, or they won’t guarantee me a rematch, what do they plan to do with me?” the MMA veteran said in his YouTube video.
Sonnen adds that ‘Bones’ is even questioning why the UFC kept the belt with him, suggesting that if they had a plan for him without the title, they would’ve acted on it already.
